Beta W-Beam Guardrail 1.0

A customizable crash barrier

    About the mod:

    screenshot.png

There are three optional rail lengths (10, 20 and 30 meters) and three optional end treatments: turned-down, cap or empty end treatment (each turned-down end treatment adds 4 meters to the length):

Every part-to-part connection strength value can be changed in the Tuning menu. This is very important if you want your guardrail to break realistically:

To customize the shape of the guardrail simply drag each post base with node grabber (by default its force is set to 30%, this is too low to budge a base). Please note that there is a curving limit.

    Known issues:

    1. The most obvious problem is that every time you press R, ctrl+R or "Apply" in the Tuning menu, the guardrail turns back to its original straight shape.
    2. Sometimes clipping through happens. Vehicle parts may stuck inside the rail.
    3. Bottom parts of the posts don't have any collision triangles (to avoid getting stuck and losing much speed). That means that a car wheel cannot snag, which may seem a bit unrealistic. Also because of this, the rail can clip through the posts, which looks very unrealistic too.
    4. Installing guardrail on bumpy surfaces becomes a nightmare. I would recommend spawning only the shortest guardrail configurations on these.

Any constructive criticism and suggestions are welcome!

Hello, your mod is of very high quality and works great without errors, do you think it’s possible to make it a prop for the world editor, while removing the camera and further simplifying the model for optimization?

This mod is basically a world editor guardrail prop converted to a jbeam-ed vehicle. Turning it back to a simple model for world editor is definitely possible, I'll consider implementing this in a future update

Really well made and realistic , the only thing i noticed is that the guardrail is really heavy compared to one in real life ,can i know why?

Well, I didn't really know how to combine light weight and decent stiffness. When I tried to apply high beamSpring values the model just exploded immediately. It should have been 2 or 3 kg per each node but not 10 and that's another issue that I will try to fix later. I think I should add more beams or/and play aroud with beam properties. Thanks for the review by the way!
