Winds of Change – Dynamic Wind Generator
This mod is not in any way affiliated with the German rock band Scorpions

    main.png

This UI app brings dynamically generated realistic (or chaotic) wind to the game engine.

The original idea behind this mod was to add realistic winds for a more true-to-life driving simulation, but like most things in this game, it can be used to goof around with the physics engine for some pretty wild results.

    How to Use
    1. Add the UI App "Winds of Change" to your UI layout.
    2. Control everything directly from the app.
    settings.png

    Settings Explained
    • Speed/Angle Range – Sets the min/max values for wind speed and angle.
    • Speed/Angle Randomness – Adjusts how quickly the wind can shift.
      • Lower values create more stable wind.
      • Higher values make wind more chaotic and unpredictable.
    • Vertical Wind – Experimental feature that allows wind to blow on the vertical axis. Not accurate at all, but leads to interesting results.
    • Affect Trees/Grass – Allows the wind to graphically affect the in-game trees and grass. Can lead to strange results depending on map vegetation values.

    Limitations & Issues
    • Traffic Wind Sensitivity – Wind affects traffic vehicles more than it should, giving traffic unrealistic behaviours at medium-high wind speeds.
    • Untested in BeamMP – Not tested yet in BeamMP. Let me know if you try it.
    • Input Issues – The text inputs can be finicky, especially when typing in values. While sliders would be better, they would require limiting how high the values can go... and that's just not as fun.

    Things to Come
    • UI Responsiveness – Changing the size of the app doesn't work well, as it uses hard-coded sizes for the wind animation. Ideally, I would like to be able to grow/shrink the app and have the visuals grow/shrink with it as customisability is what this game is all about.

A lot has been fixed and improved upon since the last time I tried this out. It's a lot of fun to mess around with, and I believe that it's in a state enjoyable enough to where I can give it its deserved 5 stars. Great work!

Updated review; I am SO HAPPY you fixed basically everything. I can now strongly recommend this (maybe even together with the flood mod) to everyone who wants a better weather in game. Also the built in presets are a very nice and welcome addition. Keep up the work!

Really love this mod, just hope you fix the common mentioned bug about the text, and I hope you'd be able to fix the wind settings to keep it from resetting whenever we spawn new vehicles or tune em up

The mod is fun to mess around with for a bit, and while it's good for a first mod, it does have some issues with it. For one, whenever you tab out to the menu, the min and max speed values switch themselves back to their default settings and you have to change them back. The wind speed (which is much stronger than what it actually says) and direction also seem to change when the game is paused. On top of that, it messes with the UI text, making it larger and offset.

However, that's not to say this mod is BAD. I'm not a meteorologist but the wind behavior seems to be accurate to what it is in real life (disregarding the high wind speed), or at least a better alternative to manually tweaking with the Wind UI app. It does what the mod promises, and even though the bugs are a bit annoying to deal with I can see this having potential.

Thanks for the in depth feedback, I have fixed all of the bugs you raised, outside of the values changing during pause (to come soon).
I am also not a meteorologist so I'll take that as a compliment haha.

The vision I LOVE, but the bugs make it (for me currently) unusable.

    - For some reason, after installing the mod, some text elements become HUGE,
    - The stop button just resets the app and doesn't really stop the wind,
    - Speaking of the wind, e.g. 30km/h winds feel more like 60km/h winds (comparing to the already in-game wind app).

If all of those issues are fixed, this would be easily a 5 star, immediate keeper mod.

Hey thanks for the feedback - I've made a lot of changes to the mod since so hopefully it's at the point of being usable for you.
