"Imagine the wind in your hair, and that 1.6L Boxer-4 engine roaring as you fly down twisty mountain bends. Then imagine it starts raining - you immediately get soaked, and the rear-biased mid-engine layout sends you snap-oversteering spinning like a tornado off the nearest cliff. Imagine no more, and live the speedster dream."

Produced between 1958 - 61, the Schnellster by Wulff is a testament to the fact that all good things are best enjoyed with an open summer sky. The Schnellster is a small car, weighing just 670 kilograms, and is powered by a 1.6 boxer-4 which produces 120 horsepower. Aiming for the ideal speedster experience, the Schnellster has two small wind deflectors in front of the driver and passenger, which form a sort of air-deflection bubble around the cockpit.

The Schnellster saw success in racing at the time - while many cars opted for powerful large-displacement engines, Wulff instead opted for a smaller engine in a smaller body, which resulted in a machine with much superior handling to many of its competitors. That being said, the rear-biased mid-engine layout does make for a challenging drive. Watch out for the snap oversteer, but don't be afraid to drive on the slip angle!

As for safety, there essentially isn't any. The metal bodywork may provide some protection at low speeds, but the absence of a roof makes the safety-structure inherently compromised. My advice for surviving a crash;
Don't crash.
------------
The Schnellster is a challenging car to drive, but I think there is a lot of enjoyment to be had charging it through technical courses. I hope you enjoy it!
