1 MB Avatars? Why?

    A few days ago, it was 5 MB, now it's 1 MB. What now, is it going to be 50 KB?

    But I upload a 7 MB pic as my avatar and it works. Then I upload a 4.88 MB gif and it complains.

    I believe the reason that there's a tighter restriction on avatar size is because of a member's gigantic 17-MB avatar lagging out people's Internet connections. So...now we have 1-MB avatar limits to help reduce loading times within the forums.

    Yeah but a 7MB pic is bigger than a 4.88 MB GIF

    It’s just really confusing. I don’t understand why 7 mb files are allowed and 4 mb gifs aren’t. and the limit is 5 mb

    There is a 1MB limit for avatar (which is enough).
    There is no distinction between GIF or a normal image.

    This limit has been there for almost a month now.

    Not my current pic but I uploaded a 1920x1080 photoshopped beamng pic and it allowed it. It was 7.81 MB

    I think static images it actually seems to rescale down to a normal size and upload that, I've seen that happen before

    I upload the spinning version of my current avatar and it's only 2.55 MB but still shows the error. I upload the 7 MB pic and it's accepting it still. I just want to be able to upload gifs as my avatar for once without the stupid forums avatar hosting issues getting in the way.

    You can find some gif compressing stuff online. The Gif I'm using only weighs in at around 650KB. I could've done less compression and got a better quality, but whatever. I may do later

    I compressed the Gif and it is only 0.94 MB and it's still giving me the error.

    Can you attach the GIF you cannot use here?

    Also, actually try to apply the 7MB image, so that we can check further.

    Is there a thing based on the actual size of the .gif? I may be wrong, but I noticed I made mine exactly 160x160, dispite the original image being bigger and dispite the site recommending atleast 200x200

    We checked further:

    - Images get resized/compressed automatically (Not GIFs, so they should be within the limits prior to upload)
    - We tried several GIFs, and the one posted above was the only not working. Probably something specific to it.

    I want to use this GIF. The size of it is 0,5MB but I still get an error that the size is too large. This doesn’t make sense at all.
