    BACKGROUND INFORMATION;
    The Mazda Cosmo Sport is a 2-seater Grand Touring Sports car that was manufactured by the Japanese auto manufacturer Mazda from 1967 to 1972. This was Mazda's first performance oriented car, and sent them on the path towards the performance legend they are today.

    The Cosmo was first introduced at the 1964 Tokyo Motor Show, and the production version launched in 1967. Partway through 1968, it was face-lifted, adding an extra few inches to its wheelbase, enlarging the grille for better airflow to the radiator, air conditioning (Though this mod won't have it,) and a more powerful version of the 10A engine. This hand built car's production ran until 1972, with just under 1200 units made overall.

    Everything about the vehicle was designed by Mazda from the ground up, around the Wankel engine. The design goal was to best use every ounce of the quite impressive, but relatively weak power output of the small Wankel engine, which required the car in question to be light and compact, have a low center of gravity, and have an innovative suspension and drivetrain solution.

    The bodywork, and frame, were put together all as one piece... Asides from the lower valance panel for access to the radiator and front sway bar, the hood, the trunk, the bumpers, and the doors.

    Overall the car only weighed around 1000kgs, or a little over 2200 lbs for us Americans, quite impressive for the 1960s when most sports cars at the time weighed nearly twice that amount, European, Japanese, and American cars included... This car by 1968 could be equipped with air conditioning, and had a full luxurious interior with plenty of arm and leg room.




    I started this mod back in May last year, originally as a modeling exercise. It quickly grew into becoming a mod as I grew more interested in it.

    My mod in particular is focusing on the the L10B version of the Cosmo. I don't plan on making an L10A at this time due to the need to redo pretty much the entire car to make it properly.

    I created a 100% custom JBeam for this car, featuring a hand built double wishbone independent front suspension, and a DeDion tube dependent rear suspension.

    The vehicle also features a 10A engine, which IRL generates around 110HP and 96 ft-lbs of torque (BeamNG has it at 126 HP and 103 ft-lbs of torque using data from real torque curves.)

    This mod also features its own custom wheels that have been integrated into the globalWheels system. These wheels can be installed on any car that supports 4 lug wheels, and most 4 lug wheels are compatible with this mod (With a few notable exceptions I will discuss in a future post.)

    Nothing is directly pulled and used in its unmodified state from an official car, even when official files were used as a base.


    Currently planned are 3 basic configs; A stock config, a track config, and a full on race config. I'm considering a police config if I can find enough references for it.

    Most of the modeling work is mine, and all of the UVs and textures are also my work...

    HOWEVER, The engine model came from @mike94 's 1958 Satsuma 210 mod;

    It has been reconfigured, re-UVd and re-textured.

    The overall vehicle model has some flaws here and there, however I'm satisfied with it... it does the job, and looks halfway decent. I will be curving the A pillars once everything is in its final place at this point since I forgot to do it before I UV unwrapped everything... It's possible to fix it though without screwing up UVs I'm pretty sure.

    To-Do's;

    I still need to JBeam the exhaust, the seats, the dashboard, adjust the hood and door hinge points, fix parts clipping, add some limiter beams, UV the chrome elements on the car (Including the wheels,) redo the tire texture, UV map and possibly bake down the emblems and branding, model a broken windshield model like the ones found on official cars, add in all interior props (needles, pedals, steering wheel, etc.) model, UV, texture, and JBeam the retractable antenna, cut the hole in the rear face for the exhaust and model the exhaust tip, and polish it up before release.

    Be patient :) It will be ready when its ready. All betas will be closed, and with people I hand pick. Asking is an immediate disqualification from being a potential beta tester.

    Next up after the Cosmo is released is the Stryder Propeller by @Atlas . Simultaneously I will be working on my 1920s 6 wheeler.
    Sometime shortly I should have a patch out for the Vendetta which will address some major JBeam issues.

    My other mod, The Mountain Highway, is also still being worked on, just it's one of those projects of mine that I'm working on as I go.

    REQUESTS;

    If anyone knows what sorts of options these cars had, including colors, please post below. I'm looking to add some stuff to this car that most people haven't seen before, that were options.


    I would also appreciate some better engine sounds. I'm currently using placeholder Wankel engine sounds from @TheRustyRagdoll , however they kinda sound funny, and don't sound like a 10A.

    One question, are you planning to make a lore-friendly version in the future?

    Dont have to feel forced to do this, as it is only a suggestion.

    That's what I like to hear. There's not really anything like this car available at the moment so I'm glad you decided to do this. From the pics the jbeam looks very well made, though I'm intrigued by your choice of mirror attachment beam locations lol

    This looks like a promising mod and looks like it would be fun to swap the Gavril 4.5 in it.

    P.S. according to Google Images, the Mazda Cosmo was only ever used as a police car in Japan, so maybe a Japanese police skin?

    I can't wait for this mod. Really interesting to have a Mazda Cosmo in the game. Really hoping the Mazda Wanda gets made someday.
