Heyo Everyone! I've been building a Lotus Carlton model for about 3 months now, and I'm working on tuning the mechanics and looks of the in-game vehicle! Please follow my progress with this post. Updated as often as possible. Download Latest Version Currently: Carlton 1-22-14 -- Color Meanings: Completed Somewhere in the Middle Not Yet Begun -- Progress on Model: Model Mesh Complete! What else needs to be done on Project: Learning to Texture JBEAM Model: Main JBeam "carlton" Front Bumper Rear Bumper Glass Hood Fenders Headlights Engine Transmission Suspension Front (brakes out) Suspension Rear Wheels Doors Trunk Aesthetic Meshes Materials Naming of the Parts Needles The needles need some work. The wheelspeed function is not working for me; currently the needle is bound to airspeed. The JBeam model is almost done! Still 1 critical issue left: 1. Front Brakes are broken 2. Light Materials And after that, I'll release beta. During beta, I'll make these changes and maybe more: 1. Textures: engine, dashboard, badges, material textures 2. Collision groups: Maximize number of selfcolliding nodes for better crash physics 3. Extra parts: Create tuned parts like coils, springs, suspension, etc. The Monster Engine: 3.6 Twin Turbo I6 and 6 spd Manual: 577 Nm Torque 377 BHP Screenshots of first version mesh via Blender: Wire Top Wire Right Wire Corner Camera Render (remember no textures yet) Engine Bay (I had fun with this :3) Underneath Rear (no gas tank or exhaust yet) Interior Front (no door panels or textures) Interior Rear (again no door panels) It has a boot A quick look at the door's interiors. They add about 4 pounds of coziness overall. Please note the model looks much better than in these blender snapshots! Looking forward to polishing up the handling, crashing, and texturing! -Ky Updates: 12-15-13: Added Door Interior Meshes 12-17-13: Added Exhaust, Tank, Door Interior Meshes, Tweaked Engine Bay Tubing 12-19-13: Finished Frame, Ready for first physics model! 12-19-13: Began SIMPLE texturing (just material textures like plastic, steel, and rubber) 12-19-13: JBeam files begun. 12-24-13: Crummy Debug Release (see attachments) 12-25-13: Second (better) Debug Release 12-26-13: First Alpha Release ("functional") and several subsequent releases fixing things. 12-27-13: Second Alpha Release: missing hood/trunk meshes again, but handling much much better. Still weak though ._. 12-28-13: Third Alpha Release: Fixed wheels, fixed hood, fixed trunk, fixed rear suspension. Fixed overall stability. Added antenna on roof :3 12-28-13: Fourth Alpha Release: hidden buggy meshes (couldn't fix), tuned handling and graphics. Added more low-down torque for smoother acceleration in automatic mode. 12-29-13: Fifth Alpha Release: still hidden meshes, but improved suspension, handling, engine, etc. Added animations like needles, shifter, and parking brake. 12-31-13: Small update: Changes to shading groups, needles, and materials. 1-1-14: Small update 1-1-14: Drifting update: limited slip differential, suspension fixed, handling tuning. 1-6-14: Snow Day! Began texturing, not released yet (still buggy) Accomplished png to mesh alpha mapping and basic image mapping (badges) 1-22-14: Progress Resumed: Added dysfunctional lighting system (hopefully easy fix) 1-22-14: Fixed Lighting
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview) I like the sleeper-ish looks of those cars. Looking pretty much forward to it. I don't think the 2.0 I4 should be included though, it just isn't meant to be there.. Not every car is supposed to be easy to drive, and properly setup the power should be manageable
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) Looks really good, though maybe a bit high polly. Even so, I can't wait to see this in-game.
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) Actually, it's only 30k poly, where the grand marshall is 70k, so I expect it to be easy on the ole gpu. Thanks, though! I take it as a compliment edit: up to 37k...
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) to be seriously, this is the only Lotus that I like
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) Nice...this car always had such an ominous look to it, like a vicious sleeper car. Its a perfect FR smash em up car, Like the Grand Marshall, this car should withstand a lot of front end abuse with the driveshaft still in tact. sweet. Always loved these cars.
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Renders are in!) Looks marvellous. Don't include the 2.0 4 cylinder, they barely moved in real life and this game quite accurately represents that . Although at least you're not doing the 1.8 that they also produced for a while!
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) Same here; I like it so much I made it on here
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (Sneak Preview and Screenshots Now!) one of my faves too - - - Updated - - - real fun but no turning
Hmph... I'm having a couple problems FIXED 1. Textures are getting iffy. Somehow, using the carlton on my game has disconnected the dds files from the fullsize and now the carlton. 2. Front wheels pop off during hard braking FIXED 3. Rear suspension (from ibushu covet) tends to vibrate violently under heavy acceleration. FIXED 4. Glass is not transparent now that I am using the materials (just chrome-like) FIXED 5. Rear suspension seems to lock up in a way, like the suspension is ceased or something. The springiness, damping, and all of that is ok, but I think there might be a jbeam making this happen. Or maybe a bad location of a node, although I've moved them around already. FIXED 5.1 The coilover damping is not working in the rear. It bounces around, unlike the front which settles down quickly. 6. Meshes somehow not aligned: exhaust_l , suspension_rear_shocks , and suspension_rear_arms_top don't synchronize with the rotation of the car as I turn left and right. They stay oriented to the map North, but I know that I reset the object-level vectors in blender before exporting EVERY TIME. (you may remember the fuel tank in the F250 Project ) FIXED 7. Even though I've removed a lot of the self-colliding nodes, I still get weird vibrations I can't pinpoint. There's one between the rear bumper and exhaust, specifically speaking. If you have some solutions to these problems, help is much appreciated. I'll update the download in the main post, so check the attachments if you want to see it hands-on. Thanks in advance, -Ky
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (First Drive-able Release!) Hey! Having some problems with this car: Suspension and some other parts are floating around when the car moves, the texture is missed, the engine is very very slow, it takes like 10 seconds to reach 5kph.
Re: 1990 Lotus Carlton Twin Turbo (First Drive-able Release!) I had the very same problem, It's quicker in manual mode though.
