2 more videos were just posted on the BeamNG channel, "Rallying in a street car" and "Big rollover from inside". And it looks awesome. Since I think you guys would prefer hearing actual constructive critisim rather than just "wow nice": There are just 2 things I would like to point out: The specular highlight on the vehicle body to me seems way too spread out. The metal paint shines like it is a smooth colored(unpainted) plastic. I'm not sure if you're just using standard CryEngine3 materials which are supposed to have the same properties as (painted)metal(if those even exist in CE3), but I think it would be better if the specular highlight was smaller, but at same intensity.

I'm not quite sure if the names are the same in your modeling software(3dsmax? or do you model in the CE3 development kit or something?), but in Maya-terms it would be that the eccentricity is too high and the specular roll-off is too low. I think for glossy paint you would want a really small but intense specular highlight.

The second thing I would like to mention is probably something you're working on anyway, but it seems like the car body doesn't have a specular map? Seems like the parts with dirt are shining just as much as the parts without dirt, which, to me, makes that "plasticy" effect on the paint even more obvious...

Other than that, I've gotta say, the videos look amazing, and I think it is a very good thing that you're mostly just uploading short videos in which you don't actually show a lot of the maps etcetera yet, rather than just uploading 4 minute videos every few months in which you give away a lot of details about the game :p Seems better to keep a lot of things a secret while still showing off stuff we've already seen, yet just can't get enough of(Ie we've already seen cars going end over end, but it is still a ton of fun to watch) :p

Uhmmm... Oh, and I wanted to say, the way the suspension and tires bounce back after a jump is really awesome! I love how on one jump you landed "pretty straight", yet it still made you nearly lose control, just the way you'd expect in real life!

EDIT@Below: Yeah, that's kinda what I meant, sorry, reworded it :)

its not metal that you need to render for, most steel is very dull and grey, so it works for a car's underside very well. You're on about glossy paint and I'm sure they'll get to that eventually. but it does seem unimportant when you consider the scale of a few things they have yet to do.

Well, currently it's impossible to get any kind of reflections on a moving object in CryENGINE, so I've decided to dirty up the cars and make them look like they've got old worn paint. They do have specular maps, but maybe they're too subtle. That said, all the materials are very much a work in progress until we code our own stuff so it looks better. It does seem like the specular map isn't working, even though it's applied... will look into this

EDIT: Okay, yeah, if I set the glossiness too high, the specular just stops working completely and I get a big solid white blob of shine.
