It's a pretty common styling solution, popularized by the Alfa Romeo 156 and pioneered by the WD21 Nissan Pathfinder.

Designers usually opt for this solution because it can give the illusion of a sleeker, sportier profile.

the FD Rx-7 is the most elegant of all pillar handles, despite being 2 doors.

Some brands use this kind of door handle in 4-door sedans, so it looks like a coupe

    Oh, i forgot something
This door handle is hard to use: the door itself can escape of your hands and hit something

I find this kind of handle being best in use, but sadly it has not been fashionable for last couple of years...

Sunburst handles are fine example of fashion that decreases functionality, like real life counterparts too, it is quite hard to use unless you are a lefty.

I wouldn't really say so. It's just like using a door handle but at 90 degree angle. Nothing difficult or unpractical with that.

Been living with a car "without any door handles" for 2.5 years with no issues.

Try other side doors, those are kind annoying with right hand.

I've sometimes managed to open the passenger door as well, yes. The car almost catched fire and totaled our neighbour's s40. Or just use left hand, whatever it's not that hard.

Marvelous. Unfortunately mine is just the 1.8l 16v but it's got enough power for a daily. Parts are pretty easy to find and cheap as the chassis is based on the Fiat Tipo.

So far I have had to do only regular service and replace a swaybar end link a couple weeks back. Had a little fender bender early in the year but had it recently sorted with some old damage as well. Then there's some typical little Coupe faults like loose rear view mirror, non-closing ashtray etc that have been pretty easy to sort out.

The Coupe with a 1.8 has proven to be a pretty normal daily. Seats 4 adults suprisingly well for a coupe and the boot size is also pretty good. Consumption is pretty much the same as with any 1.8 na. Looks great, handles well and cost less than a VW Golf with similar age, mileage and engine size. Pretty well rust proofed, only had rust where the paint had chipped off like at the front of the skirts and left rear corner it had had slight hit at some point. The big community will get you a quick answer to all of your concerns as well. (FCCUK forum and FB page for instance)

Speaking of unpractical "hidden" door handles, it can't really get much worse than this...

Well, Pininfarina had the infamous "stiletto handles" (last seen on the Fiat Barchetta, as an homage to the Pininfarina-designed Cisitalia 202). You needed to push a button in order to release the handle stick to pull... provided it hadn't frozen in.

    EDIT - Pics added
