7.4L V8 For the Gavvy Pickup and Van/Box Trucks After wheeling the Gavvy pickup/van/box, even with the current 4.5L V8, it left alot to be desired. So, i decided to create a more hefty engine for the truck that didn't murder the realism. I feel i created something that performs great, while also not ruining the feel. Any and all criticism is welcome and i will more then likely make more of these for the others. It does not override the original 4.5L, giving you a third choice. To install it, all you have to do is place the .jbeam into the "pickup/van" folder which is located here: C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG-DRIVE-0.3\vehicles\ (you may need to enable hidden folder option in order to see the "appdata" folder) After this the engine is accessible from the parts config. Ctrl+W. Then select the 7.4L. For the diesel version, make sure you also change the transmission to the 8 Speed Auto. Otherwise it will not shift with the 5/6 speeds in auto, only in manual. And enjoy! Remember, the new 7.4L for the van/box is diesel, it revs slower then the gas versions, but produces higher torque at lower rpm's. RPM limit is 4k. If you would prefer i can release a gas version of the 7.4L for the van/box trucks. The new GM combo makes the car a second faster to 0-60 with auto shift, and even faster when you manual shift it. Makes it a bit peppier. Place this in the "fullsize" folder in the same spot as the others And this is the first one i put alot of love and care into, nearly 2 hours of pure testing and tweaking. Thank you for this. I thought the default motor felt a little slow, now I can see how to give the truck 1000HP if I want to.
Yes, it is fairly easy. Once looking at a how to here in the forum i played with it a little. Again i wanted something realistic that was significant that the difference was noticeable. I played with it for about 2 hours before putting it here for those who just want more oomf from the truck, especially in the 4WD offroad form, as those bigger tires really stress both other engines out. It even makes playing with the 2WD sport version even more fun, but without being undriveable.
Nice work. You can really see the difference in top end speed with the bigger engine, but its not insanely powerful. It feels like it belongs in the game.
I have discovered in my quest for SCIENCE, that 100000 HP causes the tyres to literally disintegrate when you hit the gas. Also, the speed seems to top out at 255 mph in Shift+F1. EDIT: I also discovered at (slightly) more reasonable engine size, that the endless grid isnt so endless. I hit a wall going at about 203 mph and... well I have no truck left after that.
It is a nice engine. I also added .25 to the frictioncoef of the sport tires so I can now fly around the tracks. Earlier today I set the frictioncoef of the caddy's tires to 10. Pretty grippy. But since I can't find where the length of the coils and leafs are located I can't lower it. Because of where it is now and body roll, it flips when cornering too hard.
Here is my modification to it, a bit too fast for the road courses but this gets going fast (in automatic) without smoking the tyres off. If you use manual and pop the clutch, its still pretty managable. Of course its not realistic for a truck, but this was the fastest I could get it within reason of traction on the default tyres. 3.65sec from 0-60 in manual. I took a torque curve from a Zonda and tweaked it a bit ^^; Code: "enginetorque":[ ["rpm", "torque"] [0, 0], [500, 495], [1000, 600], [2000, 690], [3000, 765], [4000, 900], [5000, 815], [6000, 720], [7000, 600], ], "engine":{ "idleRPM":800, "shiftDownRPM":2750, "shiftUpRPM":6000, "maxRPM":7000, "inertia":0.16, "friction":24, "brakingCoefRPS":0.15 "burnEfficiency":0.45 "throttleSensitivity":1.1 },
I was looking for something that would perform better. And realistically would be done in real life, and dropping a nice big 454 CI engine in a pickup is highly doable. I wasn't really looking for super car performance, just something that gave the D-15 a more lively feel, especially the sport version in manual. It leaves nice black marks where ever i decide to put em.
No problem, i am glad this little mod is getting some good use. I'm considering making a diesel like version for the box truck, with a new transmission.
Funny thing is i just got done working on a 7,4L for the van and box truck, but its a diesel version. And with a retooled 6 speed that is now an 8 speed built to be mated to that diesel. I'm gonna release it here in this thread back up with the first post! Also if you would like a more torque oriented transmission for the truck, i could play with it. Same game count, just much more torqy ratios. And again much like i like to do, it would be separate part.
For the pickup, highest torque rating is at 580 at 5k RPM For the new engine for the van/box engine is 480, but at a lovely 2k RPM After that torque tapers off. Just as in a real engine Also check out the new Diesel V8 and matching 8 Speed transmission for the van/box trucks i added in the first post!
The new 7.4 is pretty cool, but it felt a little overpowered to me.. I lowered the torque a bit for my own tastes. EDIT: I modded it a bit more after not being completely satisfied.. for the sake of realism I made the peak torque at the same RPM as the International Harvester 7.3 IDI Diesel(I have the earlier 6.9L in my truck).. I haven't tested this on a manual transmission though. Code: [0, 0], [500, 340], [900, 390], [1400, 460], [2000, 430], [2500, 370], [3000, 300], [4000, 250], Anyways, I like that your not doing super crazy HP for the engines. I think the 'Diesel' engine just seems overpowered because of the the low end torque, low shift points, and all those gears.. Keep up the good work.. I did have a few ideas if your interested: Heavy duty steering for Van & Grand marshall. (they always break) More aggressive transmission for the Cop version of grand marshall (like real police crown vics) 5.0L V8 for grand marshall (would be cool for cop car & sport version) I'm too busy modding my real cars to dive into it here So I'm really grateful to guys like you who take the time to make this stuff.
Yea i understand. My reasoning for the power is you have to think like the engineer, it may be over powered now, but what about with a full load? The truck would behave much more differently then, which is my justification of the torque and gears, along with the shift points to keep it in the higher part of the torque curve. But as of right now its more of a proof of concept, that can only get better with time. But i'll make another engine with your torque curve and play with it, i may incorporate that into the diesel version As for the steering i'm not too good with nodes and beams, but the code behind a bit of it, like the engine and transmission i am getting a good understanding of it just from my previous experience in RoR. And i think i might do a transmission and 5.0L for the marshall Keep tuned, currently working on the 5.0L for the GM, and a matching Ford 4R75W 4-speed police spec tranny !!
