Another thing that would be limited with a big map is the looks. For performance reasons the map would be pretty low quality if it was that big.
Also another thing, if you go far away from spawn props (gauge needles, steering wheel, etc.) begin to shake. This is because the game has to start rounding the position of the props. Before this is fixed (somehow), I doubt the devs would try this.
I wouldn't call it PC-exploding. Yeah the maps are very well detailed but we have managed mod-maps with a lot more models, textures and size before.
But not quite THIS size yet... it's not only about the physical size but the amount of assets, East Coast has a lot of details for example and West Coasts tends to lag for people with low end PCs, just combining these 2 would create lag for people with average PCs and imagine if we also add Utah and the rest...
