Hey man this is looking great and you really shouldn't look at this as a loss, while building the map you've probably gotten better at a few things and that's good. If you do decide to pick this back up at some point it'll turn out even better than this iteration and honestly that would be amazing.
About backups, always before starting steam take backup of documents/beamng/levels folder to memory stick. Pretty much best is to make that backup every time when you have done for editing, because you never know when steam will update beam and your levels will be cleared from content that is not to be found from any backup folders. It has to be whole levels folder as often some files are saved in there instead of your map folder.
I think for the part of the highway that is farthest away from the town you should make it mostly clear accept for it being overgrown so that you can go fast but it's extra dangerous and extra fun.
I could! Like some of the examples down below but you gotta watch out of the fallen light poles hidden with the grass!
Yea man! that's exactly what I mean, that's gonna be super cool. A tip for making a map that went through trauma is to think about how the population of people moved through the map while trying to get away. This helps because you can make individual stories and leave clues around the map showing how the previous people lived on the map. That'd make the map super personal and extremely detailed.
What place those pics are from, somehow does not look like Ukraine? This is going to be really interesting map, there is something in that abandoned world that makes it fun to explore! Oh yes, I use this program for backups for now, it is kinda nice as after setting up, only thing needed is double click saved shortcut and it does backup automatically, one just needs to develop a routine of double clicking icon on desktop after done for a day and everything is safe in memory stick or two, setup whole levels and vehicles folders so no more misery of lost files: http://freefilesync.org/
Sorry I've been inactive much lately, school and stuff has been getting in the way but I'm still working on this! >:3 Some progress pictures
Just found this thread and already super excited! The amount of detail that you've put in is absolutely mind blowing. It looks like a nuke fell from the sky a few decades ago. Can you put a giant crater somewhere in the map?
Huh, now you got me thinking again of what this apocalyptic map should be based off of but thanks for the idea! x3
I agree for people like me who have low-mid tier PC's having a bunch of cars would make the map unplayable because of massive fps drops and the cars being models would be great
