I know there currently aren't any paintable base/official game wheels available, but in the modding community it's getting more and more common to make wheels in wheel mods paintable, but the issue is that some cars (mods) utilize all three currently available paint options, and I believe there are also some liveries that utilize all three as well.

So in my opinion it would be nice to have an option dedicated specifically for wheels to avoid the above mentioned conflicts.

wouldnt work the current way the paint system works
the reason theres 3 paints is since in every material thats colorable, theres a texture that using red, green or blue determins which paint it uses

So it's forever fully impossible to implement something else, or make a change to the system since that's how it is right now? Nice..

I am fully aware of the three colors determining what paint it uses btw.

I'm not that well versed into materials, but surely it would be possible to have an entirely separate set of colour channel data exclusively for wheels, which all the wheel materials would point towards.
this would also help against the clutter of the current wheel selector, since you could remove all of the colour variants (other than variants e.g. with/without chrome barrels)

uh unless you modify the materials code to have a checkbox just for wheels, no not really and since its a bit janky i dont think its how the devs would do it.
the solution ive seen is having a skin system for wheels and the wheel having a slot for the color, or the actual mesh with a different texture being loaded in that subslot, like KLJP does for their wheels
