I know that there are tons of posts like this, but I have a question. I've read the FAQ section and I found that multiplayer is way too complex for the engine to work, but there are already clients that do work, but they don't allow hosted rooms easily. Why does BeamNG still not have it yet? I think it's time to do it
Its more of a priority issue/upkeep issue. We know now that its possible and works well thanks to more powerful PC's. The FAQ is correct at the time it was written as back then PC's were not capable of running it. Now it is possible, the issue is that BeamNG is only a small-ish company whos devs work amazingly to give us loads of new content to enjoy every 3 months. If multiplayer was to be implemented the upkeep expenses and sheer amount of time needed to run them would take ALOT of time from the Devs so that the updates would be more delayed and have less content with more bugs. Thats why its best for now to leave to multiplayer to BeamMP and alternatives.
I agree with that. Since January 2020, however, the mods have been updated and improved alot but Its not up to the devs standards still. It still lags out and glitches and you can't have loads and loads of cars at once. (6-8 ish on a normal gaming PC). While it is something for the devs to look at in the distant future, there is no point in wasting resources trying to push official multiplayer out now, especially for the points I mentioned in my previous post. At the moment its best to leave multiplayer to the modders.
The two main multiplayer mods out at the moment prove that whilst multiplayer works, it's far from an ideal experience. The game freezes whenever someone changes their car, or changes parts on their current car, which is a massive problem that has been improved on (at least in KissMP), but nowhere near to the point where Beam devs could ship it as a reliable product.
Absolutely agree, at the moment its just not there, and a waste of development time trying to release at this time.
