I use Xfinity and they will probably think I am torrenting illegally if I update with the p2p system. Will there still be a direct download option? Thx.

Update: never mind, people can see what you're torrenting and it's up to the content's creator to file a complaint with the ISP. In other words, if you're torrenting legally, you're in the clear :D But here is some advice for the devs: You should police the P2P update network to ensure that a) people are not using it to download BeamNG illegally and b) to ensure that people are not using it to distribute copyrighted material other than BeamNG. It's up to the authors to police their own intellectual property, but you can still report misuse.

I would think so. If for some reason there isn't then someone would probably reupload it on Mediafire or something. (Don't worry about it.)

Don't worry about it. I'm 99.99% sure that it will be on the site for us to download. (I rarely torrent stuff anyway and don't even keep a torrent program on my computer.)

They still have a lot of stuff to do with finishing up the T75 and doing the new GUI so the update is still some time away.

Torrenting itself is legal, as long as you're downloading legal content, like BeamNG, there should be no reason to worry.

A lot of ISPs block torrenting due to bandwidth. I can say I torrent (Mostly legal, otherwise its to try before I buy. Saved near $200 on games I didn't like. :p) and am not being slowed, and I've used nearly 300GB of bandwidth since 3/4/14. (In mm/dd/yy, not dd/mm/yy. That would be yesterday.)

    TL;DR
Your ISP may or may not block it.

I know the dev team will not only have that though, that would break it for a lot of people.

@Bubble, enable upload bandwidth capping, my dad had 200gb data usage per month, capped his upload to 10kb/s and also removed any completed downloads from the torrent client and now only used 30gb per month. Its the upload that is killing you.

Anyway. I think when they say the race update will include support for updating his torrent, I think they mean this will be built into the launcher itself not distributed as a torrent file for your own clients. This is very common, world of Warcraft is a game that does this for instance, it patches itself via a torrent client built into the game to alleviate the server load of updating from the actual game servers, prior to this the game would lag for everyone whenever a patch came out as the servers were at max load. To the end user, this is a transparent process and indistinguishable from how beamng currently updates.

The act of torrenting is 100% legal. Its a file transfer protocol and that is all. It is *what* you torrent that can get you in trouble, last research estimates found that copyrighted material is a tiny minority of torrent usage. No ISP I have ever heard of blocks torrenting, it would be as dumb as blocking HTTP, they'll throttle bandwidth abusers connection though.

If your ISP throttles you, why not use a proxy? It should give you much better speeds I think.

It still needs to go through the ISP. The throttling would be the same.

I know, but I don't mind. My ISP doesn't have bandwidth caps so I'll keep seeding. ;)
