It would be nice to have an AI option that allows you to make vehicles follow each other to create a convoy of semi trucks, emergency vehicles, etc...
I know. But you have to have the AI set to random and they wont stop at lights and stuff and won't stick together. I'm saying an option that combines "random" and "chase" into one option so if you stop at a light or something, the other vehicles will stop as well.
But the chasing ones will crash into the random one, won't they? The chasing AI is basically a wrecking AI at this point.
I think the whole AI system in general needs to be improved. At the moment, the AI cant figure out the correct lanes to be in, doesn't stop at lights and stop signs, and cant really yield to other cars. It would be really fun to have AI cars going around following the traffic laws, it would make playing the game as a full on simulator much more fun.
I believe there's an option in the AI app that makes the vehicles drive on the correct side of the road, but I think that's it. Haven't really played with AI lately.
This option does exist, but it doesn't work well. The problems i'm talking about are especially visible when an AI goes through the complex intersections on WCUSA. I think in order for the AI to be capable of properly following traffic laws, the whole way that the AI works would have to be remade.
True, very true. This reminds me of Euro Truck Simulator 2 in the past. Oh my, what did that game have bad AI back then. These days it is much better though.
I just remembered that beamng recently partnered up with a car company, (i think BMW?) so that they could use beamng to test autonomous driving technology. Maybe this means that in the future, this partnership will lead to major AI improvements to the game?
What? You must be talking about some other program. If not, then I must have overlooked something. Do you have a link or something that explains this?
I could be mistaken, but i believe this was mentioned in that german news article about an interview with the game devs. I read the article, but i have no idea where the link is.
Oh okay. Well, if what you are saying is actually happening, we should see major changes in the future.
I will try to do some searching around for this, i think the link was posted in the update speculation thread around the beginning of this year or december last year. The update speculation thread was really busy then, so i have a lot of pages to go through. :/
To be honest, the AI system is pretty rough, it's 'grass roots' can be found in ECUSA, where it was designed to really only be in 2 lane roads, but with highways in the new maps, it just gets confusing, and the AI doesn't identify the fact that there are four lanes
Guess what, i found it! https://weserreport.de/2018/02/wirtschaft/bremer-simulieren-verblueffend-echte-unfaelle/ I was wrong, it is Audi, not BMW. Here is what the last subheading says: Cooperation with Audi In addition to classic computer games sees BeamNG founder Fischer therefore more business for the software from Bremen: "We see ourselves more as a development company." With the physical calculations, the young company wants to support research and industry in the future. First prospects from the automotive industry already exist. For example, the start-up with the automobile manufacturer Audi has already initiated a project in the field of autonomous driving. BeamNG software is designed to help detect objects on the road better and faster.
Whaaa? The BEAMNG AI is SELF DRIVING CARS? No wonder the world is hesitant about self driving cars...
I dont see your point here. The way AI behaves in this video game currently does not reflect the way it works in real life, and the article is not implying that the beamng AI is a perfect representation of Audi's autonomous driving. It is saying that beamng is working with audi to improve their AI in the future.
