I personally think it would be much more realistic if other AI controlled vehicles drove around the map, as in busy city traffic, a few cars on country roads. This would add a much more realistic feel to the simulations.
In terms of custom maps, the editors could have a function to draw the lines that the AI vehicles follow, so that the AI vehicles aren't just preset to original maps.
Instead of just a few vehicles following a loop maybe vehicles could regenerate/spawn outside of a certain radius from the player, and only stay if they have been crashed into. Possible function that if the player vehicle and AI vehicle touch the AI doesn't de-spawn?:)

I know this has more than likely been thought of, but I couldn't find any other posts matching AI, don't hate me:D

Would take too much power to make it playable for about 99% of the people that have the game.
Although this is a great idea, it's just not possible.

Someday, computers might be fast enough to support realistic levels of traffic in this game. As it is now, building a computer that can handle that without causing a quantum lagularity is going to cost major $$$ if it's even possible to do with a Windows PC. Not everyone has that many $$$, least of all me.

Some sort of "beam sleep" scheme would most definitely need to happen with a map full of AI vehicles. Purely wild and half-assed conjecture though.

There is an 18 core Intel Xeon, 36 threads once you consider hyperthreading. Probably has best chance at it, however its single threaded performance is limited, as is its room for overclocking.
That and you can build 4 gaming rigs for its $4500 price tag.
Does have dual socket motherboards available though.
