What do you think? I think it's great news for all AMD users with an HD 7000 or R9 series. And the first game to use it will be Battlefield 4 with an update in December, can't wait to try it myself It only works with Graphics Core Next GPUs, that is the HD 7000 series, the upcoming R9 series, and also the Xbox One and PS4 hardware
I'm already planning on building a new desktop with the new series of AMD cards. I'm not sure if my laptop will be able to keep up with all the new games. Do you think an 8 core AMD CPU would go better with it? I've always been an Intel man... Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
I'm honestly not sure, I have an AMD 8-core, and I'm always under 30% usage in most games. it would be amazing if games were better optimized.
With Mandtle all 8 cores are getting used, but you dont know how many games will support it. Anyway the whole thing sounds really great and i will remember this when i buy a new pc in 2-4 years.
I have a feeling that Nvidia will create their own API after this. It will be great for everyone if they did, but it will put pressure on devs who will then need to include AMD and Nvidia's API which probably means they will stick with DirectX unless they are paid to include them. My hope for the future is that DirectX dies, Nvidia and AMD's APIs will be the main APIs and OpenGL will be for the lazy developers who don't want to include 2 APIs.
I will post here the results after comparing Dx11 vs Mantle performance in BF4 with the specs in my signature.
Just did a little bit of searching and https://developer.nvidia.com/nvapi I have never heard of this before. Hopefully they will work on this and advertise it to developers so we can have some proper competition.
.. I just upgraded from a HD 7750.. I haven't even sold it yet.. (Anyone want it? It's the 2GB Core Edition.)
I hope it will be as big of a performance boost as they are claiming. I'd like to max out BF4 on a 280x
Bu-bu-bump! Mantle has just been released for Battlefield 4. The required drivers will be available soon, can't wait to see how it does. http://hexus.net/tech/news/graphics/65549-battlefield-4-amd-mantle-update-released/
I think it's a bit silly to release mantle in BF4 before you could even download the drivers needed lol
In a rig with 2x290X's in crossfire, they were supposedly getting up to 58% improvements in fps. And on a rig similar to mine around 27% or so, that is really quite interesting
Isn't Mantle supposed to be ultra light on the CPU? I think it would be very good for BeamNG, and with T3D being open source, somebody may write a Mantle fork. I personally don't have an AMD card, but it would be great for those who do.
If I have read into it correctly, Mantle reduces cpu load by having significantly less overhead than something like DirectX11. BeamNG as far as I know is on DirectX9 which I presume is even worse.
Mantle gives +50% performance on cpu limited games over Dx11. Dx9 performance is even worse, so Mantle in BeamNG should give a nice boost and also free usage from the CPU that could be used for more physics. But I'd say there is a 0.00000000000000000000000000001% chance of BeamNG adopting mantle.
I am highly skeptical of mantle. Proprietary tech which is far more complex than DirectX or OpenGL and only works on AMD cards. Due to complexity it will cost alot of development time to support it to hit 50% or so of the target audience... If I was working in software professionally I would be ignoring it entirely. Now if the xbox one and PS4 supported it, thats a different story (both having AMD GPU's). On those machines I see real use for it.
