And how can you make a map more FPS friendly for other users? I don't mind linking to other posts if you've already given out such advice. I want to make this thread a collection of FPS-related improvements. And a map-maker's resource.
In order of efficiency it's probably something like this (some of the these aren't really realistic due to the effort required vs output): Ludicrous amount of work but you could redo the vehicle mats to have a single layer with only a diffuse texture Change grass density and render distance or remove the objects entirely Change adjust the lods of the vegetation so they always render as billboards Find the smaller objects and delete their entire entries from the .forest file [Speculation here] remove the normal maps from the ground materials Delete the decals file Delete all decalroads Remove the clouds Completely delete the forest file Completely delete all minor TS static (static objects) ... you may wish to leave stuff like bridges
Use .dds textures for your things. This helps considerably. I was able to gain 25~50% fps on So-Cal from release 4 or 5 to first-mods-page-release which was RC6 in that alone.
