Hey all, just wanted to get a sort of broader opinion on a habit of mine. as a few of you know, I drive a 1976 Valiant Duster Sport Coupe, which I will gladly post pictures of here Those rims are probably the most valuable part of this hunk of junk (is jk, for a straight six she can sure haul ass down some of the more bendy roads here in Acapulco.) But the thing is, one of my main pet peeves with this vehicle is how thin the steering wheel is; Two things here, I'm a pretty big guy for this specific car, I'm a six footer, and not the flimsiest guy around, secondly, that's an older picture, I recently had it converted to floor shifter, because it was cheaper than finding new linkages for the three-on-the-tree, and although it may just be a three speed floor shifter, I haven't regretted that decision since. But that's enough showboating, onto the main deal, yo. Look at that wheel, it's absolutely tiny, and the cheapo plastic doesn't afford much grip in Acapulco's 35+ (in Celsius) temperatures, so what I do whenever I'm driving her more than a few blocks away is throw on a pair of my motorcycle gloves, either full ones or fingerless depending on what I'm wearing, and basically, I just wanted to know if the other car guys here find that tacky or tasteful for the type of car it is. your opinion is very appreciated in helping me not look like a poser.
Definitely function before form. I used to wear a pair of my mom's flower-patterned leather gloves because my old VW had no power steering and they let me get a better grip on the wheel.
You drive better and get distracted less when your comfortable. There are work gloves by the name mechanix. They are really light duty work gloves that make wonderful driving gloves. I also know a guy who shoots clay pigeons who agrees they are perfect for everything and swears by them. Just a suggestion if you don't want stereotypical tacky driving gloves, these mechanix gloves come in use when that awesome car of yours inevitably needs work.
