Well not every paid mod is bad but its so that once you buy a copie you always need to visit the Web side again to get the updated versieon and a few mod sell sides are not safe --- Post updated --- And also not everyon has the money to buy it but hear so much good stuff about the mod e.g. The Gavril scout --- Post updated --- Realy a good thread idea
there's a lot of sketchy stuff out there of course, like in any work there is going to be good high-quality people and bad sketchy low-quality people, just do your research into who you're buying from
if its a verified and trusted paid mod then its **TUFF** most of the time but watch out for all the scams and "garbage tier" paid content
There's a lot of aimless hate around paid mods, but one of the more salient points critics have presented is that paid modding encourages more low-effort garbage being developed and distributed by those just looking for a quick payday. Generally speaking, sticking to this website is broadly a good first step. Partly because the community is pretty large, usually unbiased, and holds high standards (e.g. won't be shilling or settling for the bottom of the barrel), and partly because there are only a few well-established major modders who do paid mods, and they usually create threads and post regular progress updates before release, so there's a paper trail that shows the work they've put into it. Additionally, the major YouTubers who do videos on BeamNG—and again, there are only a few major ones—will regularly post mod reviews, as it's good, easy, reliable content to produce. This gives you the opportunity to assess them before you commit to a purchase. They tend to be very positive and upbeat about even rough-around-the-edges mods, but if it were a bad enough product, it would show through the commentary in the video. Now, just because a paid mod is not developed/released here on this website, is not developed by a well-known modder, and no YouTubers cover said mod, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's crap. But you should at least consider it a possibility. Also, post-note: never, ever, ever buy into a mod that is paid in installments. Every paid mod worth its salt should be a one-time purchase, not a recurring monthly fee. Below, Dennis-W, one of BeamNG's most prominent modders and one of the only active legacy modders, has pointed out that he is currently using a subscription service for his mods. I do not consider him to be fraudulent, so if the stricken advice above should prove a good rule of thumb, it comes with some pretty big exceptions. I would, however, be wary of subscription services for individual mods, especially those not being actively developed or maintained, and especially any that use anti-piracy methods to prevent continued use of the mod(s) once payments cease.
While I couldn't care less about paid lore-friendly mods, paid mods that use IRL branding and 3D models from other sources are problematic for various reasons, especially if said sources explicitly do not allow their models to be resold. I've also seen people who charge more than USD$4.00 for these mods, which in some cases is way more than the game itself. Said mods are of questionable quality at best and scams at worst. People who do this (e.g. Royal Renderings/SpoolinDiesel Kenemation, Yolobet/Zvezdan, and Spadie) are literally asking for potential legal trouble (see the whole Ferrari fiasco that led all Ferrari mods to be removed), especially when IRL branding is used, because it's copyright infringement.
Not necessarily, take a look at LucasBE and whatnot, he has some great paid mods, it's just a matter of finding the right reliable and good source for mods. If you know where to look, and what you're buying then yes, paid mods can be a great purchase. Now onto the bad side of mods, and paid stuff from ModLand are mostly half-assed and don't have much effort into them. Just stay away from other sites and stay here on BeamNG's forums. (tl;dr here) In short, watch reviews of the mod you wanna check out and potentially buy, think about it and maybe double check the details the reviewer showed and the forum page / repo page for the mod itself. ModLand and other sites is a no-go.
Actually, that's trademark infringement, which is way worse. Copyright infringement - You stole the likeness of our company's property Trademark infringement - You stole the likeness of our company
It’s inherently wrong to assume that having a subscription model for a mod is a bad thing, you can buy the subscription once and have access to multiple mods and cancel it. After cancelling you can still play with your purchased mods. A subscription model also does have a lot of benefits for the creator and the end user. For instance a steadier stream of income makes it easier for the creator to free up time to spend on mods, benefiting the end user as well. This also allows end users to support the creator more just beyond a single time purchase, which in turn helps the creator, and on top of that also benefits the end user once again. High quality scratch made mods can take thousands of hours to complete, multiply that by your local minimum wage, add costs for equipment and software, and you can start to see why some creators (including myself) have started utilising these subscription models. Call it greedy, call it profit over passion, but the fact is that if it were to be just money I’m after, I’d be better off flipping burgers at mcdonalds.
I think you just outed yourself. lol --- Post updated --- Except that LucasBE never keeps to his promises and can't be arsed to update his mods (especially his paid ones), letting them to collect dust and rot over time until they break. Just look at at the NG Super4, it has been broken for over a year, yet he never bothered to fix it at all. He has done this far too many times.
Sorry, maybe I somehow skipped this, but did he really just abandon his mods like that? And, yeah, NG Super4 is outdated, I will agree on that, but also don't forget him revisiting 1994 ETK K-Series. Man, I get you, LucasBE not updating his mods is probably a war crime from your perspective, but don't forget that people have their own life, both regular users and modders. It is impossible just to keep all the promises in our life, nobody knows what will happen tomorrow. I am still satisfied with his mods, and I will fully agree with your statement only when these mods will actually break. As of now, they are very functional and keep up to modern mod standards, and I dont see anything bad in that.
As for paid mods: he has done this exactly 0 times. Barstow, Picnic and Scout all have modern BeamNG features and/or simply do not require attention at the moment. You don't buy possible future states of mods, you buy what it is right now and a promise to download potential updates. You are in no way entitled to tiny content additions here and there simply to have the mod not "collect dust and rot". They get fixed if they do break or are not up to standards. It is especially not his paid ones because they are literally up to date. As for free mods: They're free, who cares? Are people legally and morally required to maintain free mods now just because they have some entirely separate paid mods? How is that indicative of anything? Get a grip.
Clearly this is a lie as well. Otherwise, you wouldn't be constantly harassing LucasBE and other modders who make paid, lore friendly mods.
