Yes, I know there is already a thread about this but, the thing is the question or idea in my head right now is totally different from the discussion in the other thread. Is there anyway to tune the automatic transmission for the vehicles that have 4 and 5 speeds. I've observed on their behavior and they only seem to shift up or down at certain speeds, even with an ESC setup. Every car that uses a 4/ 5 speed trans. will shift to last gear only when it reaches 60 MPH. They should shift at certain RPM's depending on throttle amount.

Well say I'm using the Pessima with an automatic 4 speed trans. and I'm driving as a normal citizen at about 50-55 MPH, it will rev around 3000 RPM until it reaches 60 MPH then shift up no matter any amount of throttle. My question is that wouldn't it have shifted up already for, I don't know, efficiency since the computer recognizes cruising speed. I think it should be based on speed and redlines. I'm not the smartest person about cars but, I'm pretty sure when you are driving you wouldn't be cruising in your car revving at 3000rpm. It's inefficient and harmful for the engine's components to be working that hard for a low speed.
False, engines tend to achieve best efficiency running near their peak torque, aka, about 3000. Its also less harmful to them. Also consider how gears work.... 60mph in 3rd gear is gonna have a set rpm that won't change hence why shifts appear to be speed based. The game shifts at set rpms based on throttle, easily confirmed in game. This is how real autos used to work, some modern ones are a tad more complex but not much
Ehh, I don't know. When I drive my van with a 5 speed auto it usually idles between 1000 to 2000 rpm driving about 50mph also my old 98 Camry would rev pretty low at 50 so, I'm just basing it off experience of driving. I'd at least expect the trucks, suv's and vans to rev lower since their highest torque output is at lower rpm's.
I think the shift points are set to high. My Grand Marq shifts way sooner than the Marshall. I'm pretty sure my Marq shifts around 1800rpm. 2nd-12mph 3rd-31mph 4th/OD-41mph And this is with the 2.73 rear gears to. My friends Vic with the 3.31's shifts sooner even.
my peak torque occurs at 7800rpm, i wonder how long it would last if i cruised on the highway in second
Like 667 said, RPM based shifting was how older vehicles shifted. It would be cool, if shifting was based on speed vs throttle position (low and medium throttle) WOT would be based on (WOT RPM). (This is how modern vehicles, PCM/TCM determine how to shift.) like this Spoiler: Transmission Tuning 1-2 Up shift TPS is throttle position, 0 is 0% and 1020 is 100% (WOT) Ford thought it would be a great idea be 100% to 1020... lol WOT upshifts *Note* this is a 6.0 diesel stock tune that's why the WOT shifts are so low, 2-1 Downshift Hopefully we have more advanced transmission simulation (similar to this) in the future.
Or the big cam just does its job too well. There really are 2 power curves on that engine it's kind of funny. I hit peak torque at like 4k, than peak power at around 5500-6000. Cam switches, than I hit peak torque at 7800. It's dramatic if nothing else, and I dare say quite entertaining. I bought a sport bike Wich mandates buying a go pro so I can sue the guy who inevitably recks me. I'll use it to film a proper little review of my car.
When I drive my van, I'll be driving my van and cruise at 40 to 50 mph it'll be in 5th for efficiency. The only car I've seen shift at higher rpm's is my old 98 3 speed Corolla. That thing would shift at high rpm's but, only because it had to...3 speeds.
I think the gearbox won't shift to 4th even with minimum throttle before it hits 60mph because if it does, the engine rpm will be too low (below idle/1000). 4-speed gearboxes tend to have loose gear ratios leading to higher shift points.
No trust me, I've driven all types of cars and trucks with 4 speeds. They'll idle just under or a little less at 4th gear riding 50 to 55. Especially trucks since they have torque at the lower rpm's. There's no car I've driven that lets the engine rev that high at regular speeds, the computer should recognize cruising speed and for efficiency, it should shift up. I live in America btw and there's many different manufacturers and models that I at least got to ride in.
1. It's not the problem of how real life cars perform. It is down to the settings the dev gave the gearbox 2.Ibishu is a made-up Japanese car manufacturer. The speed limit for highways there is 62mph. Shifting at 60 is probably too high, but I think the devs didn't think of that
So, it's all down to the coding then? Is there a way to be able to tweak auto trans gear ratios like manual trans in the configuration's tuning menu?
If you look in the engine files for what ever car you want to change, you'll see this: "engine":{ "transmissionType":"automatic", "lowShiftDownRPM":1000, "lowShiftUpRPM":1750, "highShiftDownRPM":3650, "highShiftUpRPM":5150, With those, you can change where your transmission shifts. You can't do it through the tuning menu however.
In the vehicle jbeam file, you can mod the gear ratios. Just make sure you don't overwrite the existing files, but make those content in the mod directory.
OP none of the stock vehicle jbeam files are able to do this, as I said in the previous post you have to define variables in the jbeam files for it to work. Here is POC of what I like to call "OTF" (on the fly) parts for the H Series van. turbo'd "302" 10R80 10 speed transmission (2017 F-150 transmission) and Drag OTF Radiator. Engine, Turbo, Transmission (shift points) and Radiator are all adjustable OTF via tuning menu. You can even define variables in the engine jbeam to do OTF torque curves if you wanted to.. .
