Hey everyone, So I recently released a paid mod of a submersible but also want to release some free content for the BNG community. Firstmost, this is because I genuinely enjoy creating content for this community, and it makes me happy to see others enjoy the things I have spent countless hours working on. Which brings me to my second point. I generally only release things when they are of a high quality, which to me means that you can use the mod in the game without any major issues, and functionality is straight forward and simply "just works". Given this when I recently released my first mod I decided to make it paid, as a lot of time and effort was put into making something really great and (I think) well worth the $5 asking price. However it quickly has become apparent that people (myself included) generally want to be able to try or see something first, before being able to justify spending any money on it. This message was clearly recieved whenit took not even an hour to sell 10 free copies, yet (admittedly) days had passed with no actual monetary purchases. Anyways enough rambling .... TLDR: here is a preview for some upcoming free content I am working on, it is definitely not in as ready a state as my paid content, but it is clear that this community loves to try things out even if they are not ready for production yet. My plan my plan is to release (weekly) free mods for the time being with intermittent paid mods added when they are ready (as they take much much longer to create) So this mod is an Autorack I am working on. It is nowhere near ready for anything, it doesn't even have the bogies/couplers set up yet. Basically just a frame and starting point for the project. I estimate it to be in a workable state within a week or so. It also (may) be a covered autorack as the model originally is, however there are a TON of doors (18 to be exact), and each one has to be jbeamed individually and attached which for now is just going to take too long, when it is just easier to leave it without the doors . Untll then here are some images, note I also have to check permissions to use the dae, as the model is actually converted from the game Derail Valley. Once that is squared away I am happy to release the (very) alpha source if anyone expresses interest. Otherwise I will just release it in a week or so like I said, when it is in a somewhat useable state. Best, uncommoncreations Here is the first alpha version. Keep in mind it is very rough still and I know it has a lot to be done/improved upon, but I know people like to try things sooner rather than later despite the readiness of mods .
the only issue I am having is the fact there are so many columns and walls, trying to find the optimal way to do this without having to do them all one at a time. if anyone that is really good with break/deform groups wants to chime in would be super helpful. basically it looks quite nice untill you crash it, since all the walls are one piece at the moment it is a bit awkward
so update, I emailed the author but noticed this on the page : guess that model in the pictures will not likely be an option, though I still emailed them to ask anyways (after seeing this highly doubt i'll even get a response at all). but the good news, I have a few backup models to try out and if not will just buckle down and make one from scratch. going to do some work on it today, and post updates (hopefully today as well)
Alas, I finally found the ideal modder that I think we all needed. I am looking for all of your future projects. Good luck!
*update** made some progress, I'll post pictures tomorrow. and maybe even a demo! just working on the wheels. made a new set of bogeys w/ rotators, but having issues so will likely just use and credit an old model (we shall see) --- Post updated --- also very soon, probably tomorrow! need to make one for this dev name/account as only have a personal one at the moment
Do you have a list of mods you want to make, or is all the mod ideas made from "wherever the wind takes me" style? If you are taking suggestions, I suggest a snowmobile.
You know making a list is a pretty good idea. At the moment it is a bit "wherever the wind takes me" I suppose, though I have a huge folder of different projects,at various levels of progress. I'll come up with some sort of list/request system today. Maybe make a spreadsheet/poll or something where people can rate or request different things. Generally speaking, I like to make mods that are of things made less frequently for the game (so snowmobile would fit good into that category ) . Ill take a look at some models and see if that is a possibility at least for some sort of alpha prototype.
so I have something that "works", but it is not by any means ready for production or practical use. Sadly not being able to use the other model made things a little more complicated, but still works and has couplers. Just had to remove the metal hole wall thing for now, as performance was abysmal. Can also release the version w/ this if people want it anyways (but for me at least it killed fps to basically 0 ). I'll post a build in a few hours, just know that it is very rough and an alpha release. Keep in mind it is not by any means to my standard yet for something I'd release, but I know people like to play around with stuff anyways. All credit for the couplers/bogeys goes to the creator of 50 ft boxcar (as I used these beams and moved them around a bit for the bogeys/couplers).
But, at the same time, a request system on the BeamNG forums are a bad idea, since it will be full of children asking for planes and boeing 747's. I think it is a better idea for you to stick to whatever you want to make, since if you start to cater to others, you lose the desire to keep working. I love how you have a huge folder of projects, and it really shows that you might take this modding as as fun pastime. Release when you wish to, and do whatever you wish, it's your mods
yeah you got that right on, and it is definitely time consuming. especially making trains/boats/planes . lot of parts
Hey @RedSmokeFZW YT I just started a new job with a lot of hours so I've been a bit busy, I am still working on things when I can, so I should be coming out with some things soon! In relation to the autorack, I wasn't able to get permissions so I had to make one from scratch which I am working on but was running into some issues with performance going to have to do a lot of jbeam optimizing but I will still be coming out with this at some point!
