WIP Beta released Black Hills A desert world 1.2.3 1.0

A large desert map with bumpy roads

    Alpha 1.2.3 changes

    - adjusted sky color
    - flattened runway
    - changed color palette
    - more roads
    - half a tunnel
    - guardrails
    - new vegetation
    - fixed vegetation z fighting
    - some road smoothing

    Alpha 1.2.3 issues

    - lots of unfinished things
    - some items don't have collision enabled
    - other things/ you'll find them

    Installation instructions - download the file - extract or unzip - place the folder named Blackhills, not blackhillsalpha1.something, into your beamng's levels directory - start your game and play

    This "blackhills" folder is within "blackhillsalpha1.something". If you simply place "blackhillsalpha1.something" into your game level directory, blackhills will not work.

    When I release a more final version, I'll clarify the "various."

    Also, if you adjust the terrain textures or heightmap in any way, the game will generate a new basetex.dds. In case you happen to do this, copy and paste the basetex located in the downloaded zip over the generated one.

    Looks Fantastic. :D Out of curiosity, how did you make those textures look so good? Did you use a base texture or did you use the torque 3d terrain painter? Those textures with that height map look amazing. :)

    Since I originally posted this map, a few changes have been made. Do these changes look better or worse? Personally, I think it looks better, but my judgement isn't always the best.

    things to do

    -fix a lot of textures and their normals

    Since everything used to be based upon static lighting, some of the textures no longer look okay.

    -make better plants - a meshed bush and a few decent grasses

    Last week, I figured out how to properly use alphas to cut out plants . Yay!

    - make a typical run down motel

    I just want one.

    Here are a few pictures of a desert themed world that I've been working on.
    Since I'm pretty slow at getting anything done, this map probably won't be finished for a while.
    Right now, my main goal with this world is to smooth out all of the roads.

    After that, I'll probably add some road patches and a little gas station.

    Best texturing I've seen so far. Don't tell the devs this but it even looks better than most of the maps that come with the game!

    Well, I'm trying to make some buildings now. They're not very good, but, with time, they'll probably get better.

    Lookin' pretty good.

    Forgive my designer's eye, but I think the gas station could use more evocative signage. For instance, one of the following:
