more common than you think. vw uses it in every turbo car they make now, ford in the rs and st, and some bmws do it. lots more examples exist too.
its very common in drag cars for more traction off the line but its also used in a lot of production cars
Wait. Are you talking 2 step launch systems or are we talking boost by gear. Because they are both different.
he means less boost in lower gears for more traction in drag cars, i was also a little confused about if he meant 2-step or not lol
i realized i may have been spouting bs that i saw on youtube videos, so i decided to look around for some stuff. "The Ford has deep levels of technical knowledge in its front suspension and electric power steering to both limit torque steer and also give the ST great abilities on fast laps. Even so, the boost is limited to about 9 psi in the first three gears." - 2014 Ford Focus ST and "Gear Based Torque Limits (stock tune): 1st - 147.5 lb-ft 2nd - 199.1 lb-ft Reverse - 132.8 lb-ft 3rd-6th - 737.6 lb-ft (unlimited)" - Ford Fiesta ST, the only forum post i could find that doesn't just say 'boost is limited in gears 1-3' (no source credited) i'm assuming torque limits are from boost limits, and not some type of ESC wizardry(ESC is claimed to be off in most forum posts about it.) couldn't find anything about vw or bmw. sorry for wasting your time. and sorry for not finding any actual credible sources to quote from.
This is what I found on the web about this, it might be something to do with the Turbocharger, firstly what I said before was wrong it looks more like Turbochargers than anything else but the link below is to what I found on the web Boost By Gear Limits
Ok cool, I just wanted some idea if and how stock cars actually have this feature. Since they do, might be something to look into in the future.
Well at least I tried to do some digging into it I am wondering if @Scrungo Bungo has a Honda based vehicle
What i really want to see is an adjustable 2 step launch controller for drag racing. That will allow you to set the desired RPMs while you are reving with the transbrake engaged. Along with adjustable boost controller that can be adjusted by either time, gear, or distance. Oh and of course this would mean we would have to have turbos for the Barstow/Moonhawk. Also if we had multiple stages of nitrous , so if you had a 3 stage 450 shot you could fire 3 separate 150 shots to build the power more gradually instead of all at once causing the car to do a backflip. http://www.badasscars.com/index.cfm...ct_id=288/category_id=13/mode=prod/prd288.htm This is all technology they have in real drag racing. Oh another idea is to have the ability to swap about body panels for fiberglass or carbon fiber. I would also like to see bigger engines for the Barstow, somewhere in the range of 600 CUI. I have too many ideas i know.
Why does it have to be stock cars? I know Bisimoto used it for some custom jobs, so aftermarket applications exist as well. Same with multi-stage nitrous, launch control, anti-lag, etc. most have more aftermarket & racing applications than they do factory and all would add some realism.
