Hello! im currently in the process of salvaging my old compaq pc from around 2003. although, i have found an issue. there is a leaking capacitor in the power supply, causing the atx12v power plug to create a problem where the pc turns on for around 2-3 seconds before powering off completely, power supply included. any suggestions on what to do? (replace power supply, etc.) thanks!

The problem is your leaky power supply if everything else is fine then that is the problem, I would replace it just to be safe. But everything should be okay, ive had experience with power supplies dying and the computer shutting off under load or abruptly. My cause was a fried power supply from a lightning strike outside my house.

Yep, I'd go for a new PSU. Lucky for you, you already seem to know what the problem is.
