What does everyone think about bukkit going down, remember, almost all Minecraft servers are using Bukkit.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure this should go in the other games section, but I could'nt find it.

It's CraftBukkit that's going down, not Bukkit.

*facepalm* you realise Bukkit is just short for CraftBukkit, hence why the bukkit twitter account is named @CraftBukkit and the license text refers to it as CraftBukkit and on older versions its even CraftBukkit.jar

It isn't going down though. The lead dev has quit but the git will remain available to download it.
However, jeb has turned around and said that part of the dudes mijang contract doesn't actually allow him to just ditch Bukkit like this and so Mojang are looking at what they can do for it (my guess is get rid of vanilla server and incorporate Bukkit as the default server instead)

So eh what does this all mean? All servers are going to have to find a new way to run? I don't know much about the technical side of Minecraft but this seems like a big dilemma.

I just found these two articles: https://storify.com/lukegb/the-tale-of-bukkit-for-minecraft-1-8 and http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/08/21/m...tries-to-end-development-but-mojang-steps-in/
So maybe it won't close, but who will develop it? The minecraft team? Will it replace the vanilla server software? So many questions!

It also seems alot of the devs are leaving bukkit: http://bukkit.org
But also what about Wesley Wolfe aka Wolvereness: http://dl.bukkit.org/dmca/notification.txt , he sued bukkit or somthing.

You may ask: Why do I care? Because I have a server, if you want to know the IP, PM me (I can't have so many people on).

I think the biggest problem is that there are sooooo many plugins for bukkit that servers rely on, and if bukkit stops development than all the plugins are obsolete. So almost all servers are killed. LOL, or maybe in years Minecraft will be at like version 4.8.9 and all servers will stil be at 1.7.9, LOL.

There are open source C# servers out there. Im sure if it comes to it someone will develop onto one of them and allow plugins and stuff

But still all the thousands of plugins on bukkit will be gone and most servers use them, so pretty much every server would have to basicly reset.

So here's what it looks like to me

    They were using Mojang code
    They got caught
They tried to play it off
Suddenly dropped the project so they wouldn't get sued

bukkit is owned by mojang, so there's not much to get "Caught" about mojang code (which btw, they don't use)

http://forums.bukkit.org/threads/mojang-and-the-bukkit-project.309715/ should help explain what's happening
