So I've been learning how to mod cars, not just editing values in the JBEAM either. Went ahead and started learning blender too. Then I realized the chopped/channeled body for the burnside just isn't cool enough for me, I wanted a convertible instead. Starting from a base burnside body (not chopped/channeled), I took off the roof and pillars, and have started cleaning up/filling the holes in the mesh. Modifying the jbeam to match was actually the easy part. Now the part that I'm completely and totally confused at... reskinning the thing. Anyway, here's a quick spin around in it, showing off the hotrodder pipes barking fire. If anyone is interested in fixing the skin issues, let me know.
Oh yeah. Forgot about that. Lincoln Continental was also a 4-door convertible too in the 1960s. Lincoln Continental style suicide doors would look better IMO.
So, I probably should've mentioned... I'm not a 3d modeler. I'm a programmer/sysadmin by trade. I only just recently figured out how to do this basic kind of stuff in Blender. All the same, I did some more tinkering, and fixed most of the holes in the mesh (at least the big ones). It also barks lots more fire. I fine-tuned the .pc config and built one as a 'default' so you can just plop it into your ./vehicles folder and go for a spin. I'm at a stopping point on this one, kind of hit my skill limit for the time beaing. Anybody that wants to improve it is free to do so, just please give credit where it's due (IMO the credit should go to the BeamNG devs for making some great baseline cars to start from). I think it looks pretty sweet in black. (covers up some of the flaws, perhaps?). It's fun to smash it and compare against the hardtop. Since I cut out a lot of the roof beams, it crumples up nicely in an accident. Obligatory warning: This is a default-lineup car that was hacked apart by a total modding novice... so, it might glitch in certain accidents or cause other weird things to happen. And lastly, here's a vehicle wishlist of things that I don't have the know-how to do: fix texture bugs fix/adjust beam/mesh/etc further for hotrodder pipes fix interior/driver camera (was it hanging from the roof?)
Thanks! I'm already working on a different vehicle, I kind of have ADD when it comes to hobby projects. Something kind of like an Austin Sprite. Current working name "Wiltshire F-type" (couldn't figure out what existing in-game brand works for such a car). I'm working off of a free-to-use mesh for the body, it's intended for 3d printing, lol. Instead of using it as CSG, I hollowed it and then when i'm ready to bake UV will run a solidify first. I'm starting to get the hang of Blender. Textures kicked my backside for a bit, but I finally figured that out with a little project that let me focus on each area of in-game object creation at a time in small chunks... I made this little ramp entirely from scratch in Blender, BNEditor, and GIMP. It weighs around 18,500 lbs(kg?) so you can jump most vehicles over it without it skidding around. I hit it at around 85mph in the semi and it didn't fold, the truck did.
Challenge accepted. threw this together tonight, gotta figure out the "rails" system in jbeam so that it doesn't twist apart so easily.
