It'll never be is intense as the real thing. My Great-Grandfather (R.I.P. :() served on the pacific front. He said the scariest thing he's ever seen was the eyes of the kamikaze pilots who he had to shoot down.

Looks alright from what I saw. Too bad the COD series has to play catch up to Battlefield and this WWII COD game was an easy bet.
Something tells me it won't be what a Battlefield WWII game would be.

It wouldn't. Battlefield and CoD aren't the same game. One is an arcade shooter and one is a "realistic" shooter. Plus cod isn't playing catch up. IW sold more copies than BF1 did so.....

Not a fan of FPS (unless it doesn't have trying-to-be-cool kids/teens) but is it just me or will this be a Sensitive Topic (because obvs) for everyone's parents/grand parents...

We could rationalize all day as to what the specific goals of each franchise are but it will not lessen the fact that Battlefield 1 is
an impeccably well done and fun FPS in all aspects. The thought of taking that into a WWII game is an obvious no brainer and
I for one am dying to see it happen. The COD franchise going balls out back to WWII like they are is such an obvious attempt to
steal Battlefields thunder it is ridiculous. The stakes are high for the COD franchise and I hope they pull it off.

How many more COD games are they going to make? They really milk it like a lactating dairy cow. I wouldn't be surprised if you could make a Monopoly board game out of the number of CODs that has been released.

I take it he flew a plane?

Also, I don't think players will really care about how intense it was to actually be on the actual battlefield, they'll just want to shoot stuff up and rage whenever they get killed by other players.

    Games about WWII get repetitive.
It's always the same deal. You are the strong 'Murican going to war against the Nazis (or against the Japanese, depends of the game). But let's talk about the trailer for a moment.

Playing as an American : confirmed
    Against Nazis : confirmed
    D-Day and Libération : confirmed

That smells like déjà vu to be honest. Now, it's up to them to make the game worth buying.

I still find the way WWII is depicted in video games really saddening. Once more, it's about D-Day, once more, you will have to shoot Germans... There are only a few games where you can play as the Germans.

Lol, at least you can play as the French, if I am not mistaken.

There are so much things those games could cover though. When I was still a child (by that, I mean like 10), I remember being surprised to see nations such as Romanians, Hungarians, Slovaks and Finns in Il-2 Sturmovik : Forgotten Battles. Not to mention this game also had French (more precisely, the Normandie-Niémen squadron, which was formed in USSR by Free France).
There are so many events that would deserve to be talked about in video games. Sadly, it seems that video game producers are still focusing on the same events. I don't think I saw games about the Winter War, nor about the invasion of France. The list would be long.
Same for weapons and vehicles : a lot were used during that conflict, but only a few are remembered.
This is a Latil M7T1, a French artillery tractor

TLDR : Why are WWII video games almost always the same.

Because strong, american heroes, and evil germans are drilled into us by our (American) culture and education. Those stereotypes aren't true, but the people who don't think hard about the truth will always go with what society tells them to do.

This should tell everything about CoD:WWII. There are too much bullshittery to take this game (or series) seriously.

Not repetitive when this is in 4K and sparkling graphics. The last good WW2 game was Battlefield 1942 and that was 2002. CoD is shit but I would like to play a historically accurate WW2 game.

I would LOVE to see one of these franchises tackle the WWII air war over Europe in earnest. The tech is there to do it on a grand scale and as BF 1
shows, the multiplayer could be epic. Multiplayer B-17, Lancaster and B-24 raids day or night, air defense batteries, P-51/P-47 fighter escort...Mosquito,Typhoon and P-38 ground attack..I salivate at the thought. Play as the German, Italians, Russians etc.

Then again I too would like to see some lessor known and asymmetrical aspects of WWII explored or perhaps the Korean War.

Sure, if the game ends up being somewhat accurate, it would be a good thing. I just hope this game won't be on the "Murica f yeah" side of thing too much.

No, and I personally don't like the MURICA FUCK YEAH theme of every WW2 game but with every country being playable and each country having its perks.
