While you are in "person" mode aka the 3d thing. Why not give him a few tools to do some light damage on the cars such as a baseball bat, crow bar, hammer, axe. Just some basic tools to break windows, break the mirrors, dents in the bodyworks, maybe slash a tire, etc.
