Speeder Bikes from Star Wars. Construct the Speeder in Blender, make the beams like any other car but put wheels on the speeder. Make the material for the wheels complete transparent and parts that connect wheel to Speeder Bike. You should get a vehicle that behaves similar to the one in the movie staying that certain distance from the ground but looking as if it is floating. I don't yet know how to make the beams, something I will get into later but know about tricking the eye. Maybe this is something not considered or maybe a mod already exists for it. The thing Luke drove around in episode 4 would work as well. In fact it really did have wheels in the 70s when first filmed and Vaseline was put on the lens of the camera to blur the wheels out. Why there is a funny blob in the original cut you could see under it. That was later fixed with CGI.
Why add invisible wheels if hovercar mechanics are already possible? This is perfectly doable in a movie-accurate way but would take a lot of effort probably.
