I love BeamNG for thrashing around in a car and breaking things, the way it should be, but my fun is always sullied by cars overheating even when I've put an Ultra radiator in them.

For example: One of my favourite combos is the Vivace Hillclimb with dirt tyres and suspension on Pikes Peak, but even with an ultra radiator I can overheat the engine before I'm 1/4 of the way up. I don't think this is realistic for what is meant to be a hillclimb car, and it certainly isn't fun. I've had similar problems with many other cars.

I know I can mod the engine to make it unbreakable but I really feel that this isn't in the spirit of the game, I should be able to build a beast and have fun with it without resorting to mods.

There are engine tuning mods out there.
One can also manually edit the jbeam

Sure, I've already said I know I can mod it, but that's not the point. In my mind if I put on an "Ultra" radiator I should be able to cool anything the best real world radiators are capable of cooling.

And while I'm at it, and this is directed at the devs and not you:

Being told while I'm driving around that my synchro's or whatever are being damaged does nothing whatsoever to enhance my enjoyment of the game. It only reduces it. Please give us an option turn all this nonsense off, let us enjoy the game in peace.
