Career Mode Mission "Dangerous Speeds" Impossible

Is it a skill issue or is the mission "Dangerous Speeds" actually impossible to three-star-complete?

The fastest I can manage to stop the enemy - opponent I mean, is at right about 0:50:00. But at that time, I also need to slow down from the max speed of 124 Mph to zero, next to the other car, and this within five seconds (even less than that) so the arrest count down can finish.

This seems to be physically impossible, unless you somehow manage to mangle you and the other car in a ball, which seems highly random to me.

I can see sub 1:20:00 or even sub 1:10:00, but not sub 1:00:00.
