I have a couple of ideas for possible game mechanics revolving around the pits. Part Removal In some racing classes like touring cars and rally, teams are allowed to remove damaged panels and parts. This would be good for the final game as it would allow the removal of parts that are dragging on the ground or otherwise hurting performance such as knocking out a smashed windshield for a clear view or removing a wheel that has a broken steering rod. Spare Parts To replace parts during a race / stage you need to have those parts in your inventory, if you destroy your nice new high performance radiator you might be stuck putting your old stock radiator back in and having to slow down to avoid cooking the engine. If you are worried this may lead to the player feeling cheated (eg. blowing a tire and having to retire due to not having a spare) this could be solved by having the option to buy parts in the pits at an inflated price. This rewards forward planning while not punishing the unprepared too harshly. Tire Changes I'm sure you have already planned tire wear but would it be possible to have wet weather race tires?
I think that is a really good idea. I was thinking about a similar topic too and I think it´s a good thing for BeamNG to go the really realistic style. More realistic than any other driving game... Fuel maybe too?
It doesn't seem like you'd feel any more cheated due to not having a spare and having to retire because of that than you would if you just drove poorly and lost because of that, IMO difficulty should come primarily from forcing the player to plan rather than driving skill, a person can learn to be prepared but nothing can help lack of skill, another thing I hope for career mode is that the restrictions for the races or whatever aren't too strict, I want it to ALWAYS be possible to use a car that's much better than the cars the AI use.
Ye, it´s a little bit too soon to think about it, but I would like seeing BeamNG going in that direction.
