So I was originally going to upgrade my older desktop, but it appears I may just get a new custom built desktop. This weekend I'll be calling a pc builder my family knows of with information about BeamNG and being able to run the game. Of course, with a custom build, why not go for high graphics? ;)

If you guys can help me out with this, it would be much appreciated as I'm relatively new to the pc world. A guide to what I'll want to ask him about on building so I can have an invoice of what I want. Here's my thoughts:

    Wants:
    High graphics
    2-3 cars spawned
    <$1,000
*I also make 40 videos a year of games and IRL stuff, if that means anything. My laptop can render 1 minute of 1080p video in 2 minutes, so if needed I can transfer video to that. Usually whenever I play games I record with Fraps*

    Ideas:
    GTX 770 $350
    8GB DDR3 RAM $70
    Windows 7 64bit $75
    1 TB HDD $70
    Intel....?
    Motherboard...?

    Anything else I'm missing?

So you want less than a thousand, a gaming rig thats good for rendering?

    4770k, 770, 16gb+ram, hdd's, nice case, good mobo.

Here is me giving you the highest end you can get, you have to use ur current desktops case (if possible) and hard drives. But with a lot of upgradability, this is the highest performance your going to get

    5xsmZ.png

974$, also you would need your disk drive. But save money use some old parts, have a beast rig.

You can cap your 1k$ goal and get the same graphics card as me, i have the evga 770 4gb card. Beast of a card. With ACX cooler. Reason i suggest the evga card is their awesome step up program.

Tomorrow I'll startup the desktop and see what parts I can rob from it. The RAM is probably good, case, maybe power supply. Just those alone would save a bit of cash.

Well for rendering your going to want some decent ram. And the RAM in the old desktop will need to be ddr3, if u find 2gb that will work but will rob your performance some. Dont even bother with the old pcs ram if there isnt any more than 2gb. The case should work, unless the graphics card wont fit. The power supply, id recommend some new juice for new hardware. Unless this old pc is a 2006-08ish gaming pc with good spec parts maybe. Let us know whats in your old pc. I'll try my best to get you the best bang for your buck. You will be able to upgrade ALOT also.

    Re: Christmas Build Help

Here are the specs from my current desktop, which has had upgraded RAM and a video card:

    AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core @ 2.50 GHz
    AMD Radeon HD 6600
    DDR2 8 gb RAM

So I'm going out on a limb and say that all of this is useless since it's AMD and the ram is a bit old. The casing on the computer is a normal HP case, and I think it's fine since it's just hidden under my table. It's disk drive works perfectly fine also. This pc build is going it be tough isn't it?

I know of a pre built desktop, I plan to get it within a year (not money problems) and it well over $1,700. Is that too high, if so I won't waste both our time and post the link?

    - - - Updated - - -

Btw, I wouldn't use a AMD if it was the last processor on earth!!

If you want a cheap cpu look for a AMD Phenom II X6, i have the 1090T Black Edition and it can handle up to six cars and still be playable.

A high end build would be this.
    i5 4670k/i7 4770k
r9 280x/280 when if they release. They will be a lower clocked 280x, not a cut down tahiti.
    1tb HDD with 128GB SSD
    16/8GB RAM
    ~600w PSU

    If you need cheaper go
    One of these: http://ark.intel.com/compare/75045,75043,75044
    1tb HDD
r9 270x/270 non-x as they are the same chip but the 270 is downclocked.
    8GB RAM
    ~550w PSU

Mobo and stuff is up to you.

    Re: Christmas Build Help

Thanks for the help. The $1,000 is definitely the limit I want to stick with, if it's a few dollars over I'm sure it won't be that bad.

So I've decided the best cpu would be the i7 4770k after looking up some benchmark tests. What sort of mobo should I be looking at for this and the GTX 770? And will 8 gb RAM be enough for games and cinematography?

    $300 i7 4470k
    $350 GTX 770
    $70 8gb RAM DDR3
    $75 Windows 7 64 bit
    $78 1 TB HDD
    --------
    $875

    -mobo
    -power supply
    -any additional cooling needed?

8GB is enough ram. That right there is a solid pc setup. You wouldn't have to worry about anything for 3 years atleast till you would consider building a new one.

well, if you plan to overclock, you defintley dont want to use the stock cpu cooler, in which case, youll want a 3rd party cpu cooler, i dont really know a lot in this area, but it seems the cooler master hyper 212 EVO is a decent one

power supply, what brand do you plan on getting, i would persoanlly suggest a Corsair, XFX, or Seasonic, dont really know how good other brands are, but ik the 3 i just listed are highish end ones, as for mobo, i really dont know anything in this area, just make sure you get one with the same cpu socket that your cpu needs (and a recent chipset as well), as well as at least ONE pcie 3.0 16x slot (or 2.0)

    Re: Christmas Build Help

That won't work, sorry. You will NEVER find a good case, power supply and a motheboard with 125$, NEVER.

You entire build with the budget doesn't fit. i7 4770k and gtx770 in a less than 1000$ ? Impossible!
You should go with a cheaper cpu and gpu, something like the 760.
There is no point in buying good harware and than a shit motherboard and powersupply.
And there is also no point with a "k" cpu because you won't be able to overcklock it with the standard cooler and a cheap case with bad airflow.

You want a fairly good pc with i7 4770k and gtx770? Pay at least 1500$.

Think of it, good cpu cooler, at least 40$, good motherboard, at least 150$ and this is the very min. Also a good case, at least 80$.

You tottaly forget that a pc is not only CPU,GPU and ram and the rest can be super cheap. As already sad, a good motherboard, a good case and the cpu cooler at least 300$ in total. And that is still not much.

So go and get a cheaper cpu and gpu and than it will fit in a 1000$ budget.

    - - - Updated - - -

@Edit, a gtx760 might be still to good.
I am currently looking for pre-buid pc for 1000$ and none of them has a good gpu and cpu at the same time.
The only thing I found is a 1200$ build with i5 and gtx670. Now take of the money they demand for building it and you have arround 1100$ for something with i5 and gtx670.

    - - - Updated - - -

    @Edit

This is probably the best you can get for 1100$

Yes, the Hyper 212 Evo is a good budget CPU cooler especially for smaller CPUs like the LGA1155/1150. I would recommend you spend more on the power supply and buy only reputable brands such as Corsair, Seasonic or XFX. Also check the amount of ripple the power supply has, you can check from online reviews. Typically the PSU shouldn't have more than ± 60mV. More ripple = Higher chance of long term damage to components.

@dev: Did you even read my posts? Already have a case. Not buying any additional cooler. If anything I'll just get a $50 case that has another fan on it. There also doesn't seem to have a price difference between i7 and k. All I need is a mobo and power supply. If I need to go over the budget a little I can afford it with my money.

    Re: Christmas Build Help

No, I didn't. But still, a mobo and power supply will be at least 160$ if you wan't something wich isn't totally crap. And still, it would be stupid to get a good cpu or gpu and than let the rest be shit. That's like putting a ferrari engine into a twingo.
I think you should really go with some good fitting componenets wich aren't top of the line but still good instead of that mix of good and shit in the same pc. Look at what I posted, it would totally run everthing fine and isn't much over your budget.
Also, make sure everything fits in your case and that it has a good airflow, because if you have a good card, a good cpu with the crappy standard intel cpu cooler and a small case with like 2fans, than you will be able to cook eggs on your pc.

    Re: Christmas Build Help

Contrary to DevKryton, I actually did manage to piece this bad boy together for around $1k, with alot of help from multiple people (thanks!). After I talked to my dad, we decided to not rob parts from the older desktop, start fresh. So the case, dvd reader, and sd reader raised the price $200. I've also got permission to build it myself. If I have any issues here please point them out, I believe everything is set up correctly. Here's my build:

    $330 GTX 770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162143
    $310 i7 4470: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116900
    $110 ATX case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021
    $130 ASUS Z87 mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131981
    $100 Windows 64 bit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986
    $80 CORSAIR CXM psu 600w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139048
    $78 RAM 8gb DDR3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313435
    $75 Seagate 1TB HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148912
    $35 NZXT card reader: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811992010
    $15 LG DVD drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136270
    ------
    $1,263 sub
    $1,351 tax

I'm really excited about this tower. It's going to save me from having to worry about overheating issues because it has three 120mm fans. A rear fan with a three-speed control, and two blue LED fans in the front. It also has a side window and a sharp design, perfect for a serious gaming rig.

I had that case. Cable management was awfully difficult in it, and the hard drive cage was the worst piece of kit I've ever had the misfortune to use.
edit: forgot to mention that the HUEG fan up top is unbearably loud at any RPM aside from zero. Super solid build quality though.

Processor is good, but I suppose an unlocked i7 would be a bit of a stretch.

770s are glorious for the price.

    Asus mobo, good.

    Windows costs $100?

You're essentially wasting a slot if you're getting 2x4GB RAM. 1x8GB costs about the same.

If you can get a Western Digital drive for the same price, go for that instead.

Otherwise, your build looks pretty good, mang :^)
