Saw a Peugeot not too long ago. Those are super rare here, along with other European makes like Citroën, Renault, Opel, Škoda, Seat, etc.

Peugeot-Citroën's luxury brand DS is coming in the next few years though, and Alfa Romeo just started selling the 4C, with the Giulia coming soon. They started selling Fiats here a few years ago, which I was super excited about. My mom bought a 500 partially on my advice.

In Italy, most of the compact/sub-compact models on sale are only available as hatchbacks. If a saloon variant exists, more often than not it's not imported due to slow sales for this particular bodystyle.

Like, say, Ford sells a 4dr Focus pretty much everywhere in Europe, but not in Italy. The last Ford compact sedan available here was the Mk2 Orion, based on the '95 Escort. Same goes for the 4dr Opel Astra J, which was briefly made available in 2014, only a few months before the launch of the Astra K, and then discontinued, or the Mazda 3, whose sedan version is nowhere to be seen. The VW group is pretty much the only holdover in this dying segment, but, curiously enough, while they insist offering the Bora/Jetta despite the non-existent sales, they never offered the Polo Classic/Vento here.

Conversely, fastback midsize models are a fairly uncommon sight here. We didn't get the Opel Insignia 5dr nor any of the Mazda 6 fastback versions at all, and the last-gen 5dr Mondeo was discontinued pretty soon after launch.

Strangely enough, the toyota camry. Never seen one in person and the only one for sale in the entire country (that I found at least) costs 6000 euro.

Honestly just fucking end it all

Same here, I know the Camry due to its bad reputation as a boring car whose sales largely exceed its actual qualities, but it was never available in the country where I live (Italy).

Toyota only took off as an estabilished brand in Europe when they started building their vehicles here in the early '90s, and even then, their offering was pretty much tailored around their sort of twisted perception of the local tastes, with market-specific models such as the dreadful Carina E (T190). Before then, Toyota was - like most Japanese manufacturers - a very minor player in the market, also due to import quotas.

We also skipped quite a few generations of Corollas (the first one to be officially imported in Itay was the bug-eyed, Euro-spec E110). Despite its notoriety, the Corolla nameplate was dropped for the last two generations (E150, E170) of hatchbacks in favor of the new Auris nameplate. The Corolla is still sold as a sedan alternative to the Auris in a few selected european countries, but not here, where compact sedans are fundamentally unwanted.
