I created this for myself and for fun, I know many people will find it useless, but I think it is worth posting so anyone interested can enjoy it.

It is a simple compass/heading indicator, HD and fully resizable. North is the same direction in which vehicles first spawn and all headings are relative to it. Contains different skins, click on the gauge to change skin. You can easily create your own ones.

    Update v09
-Fixed wrong numbers and corrected lines in Aircraft gauge.
-Multiple skins support added! It now comes with 4 different variations. One airplane-like gauge, and 3 different standard compass versions.

    Installation:

    Extract "HeadingIndicator09.zip".
Copy the folder HeadingIndicator found inside HeadingIndicator09 to *beamng-main-folder*/html/apps
    Should look like this:

Restart BeamNG if it was opened.

    Good luck :)

    Still Beta ;)

Looks really good, nice work. :) Maybe include different selectable "skins" for it with different faces, a standard compass maybe?

Yeah, definitely! Thanks for letting me know! I got the image from the internet and didn't pay too much attention, I will change it asap.

I will think about that, seems a good idea :p

This is really handy to have! I am finding it so easy to get lost in my bigger version of sketch city as most of the streets look similar. This will help me know what way I'm going. Thanks for sharing

    New Version:D

I fixed the wrong numbers and corrected the lines in the aircraft version. Thanks RobertGracie. (http://i.imgur.com/V3c67jb.png)
And I did what metalmuncher said and added skins support! Comes with 3 new skins, based on different standard compasses. (http://i.imgur.com/WiUp5L4.png).
My favourite skin is still the aircraft one :D. You can easily create your own skins, feel free to post them!

I would like to ask if the compass behaviour is the expected one, the needle points north, the background remains fixed, but nothing indicates where you are heading, it can take some time to guess that. Sorry for the dumb question, I'm not familiar with compasses ;).

I'm happy you like it :). Feel free to feedback.

    Some ideas for improvements:
on the 3 new skins the needle goes into the wrong direction. To solve this you could add a direction value to your skinsarray.
also i'd replace 'mousedown' with 'click' but i guess that's more a personal preference in this case :)

    looks really good :)

Yeah, that's what I thought, but aren't the needles of standard compasses supposed to point North?
Then, if you are heading North, and you turn your car right, now North is to your left, so the needle turns left, tracking the North.

So that needle is not indicating your direction as it is written in the fixed gauge background, but rather pointing real North, regardless of the background. This is the way it is now. I'm not very familiar with compasses, and I may be wrong.

So I should probably do what you say, as it is a lot easier to understand where are you heading, and that's the purpose. Thanks for the feedback, I've already changed 'mousedown' to 'click'.

Actually, I think the vehicles spawn facing south. Open the level editor and select top view from lower right corner. I've designed my maps so that up is north in that view. Also, that's how I set up my cubemap compass.

And why would I want to know what direction I'm going in?

It's easy to become disoriented in an area devoid of landmarks and other features whether it be in the air, in the sea, or on land. A compass assists in navigating such areas.

Why did you need to bump an old thread with a smartass remark? You didn't contribute to the discussion, the community, or to anyone else's impression of you as anything more than an idiot.

Now we need a proper attitude indicator. Nice work.
