Whats a safe limit for a I7-3770K? Playing beam 40-45% load its running at 92-98 C, which is hot? as it starts to throttle at 105C IIRC? Thoughts? Thanks
thats nuclear hot. clean that heat sink or go bigger. that kind of heat cycling will hurt your cpu sooner or later.
My 2600k never came over 50°c on 4,2 Ghz, Arctic Freezer i30 cooler. My 4770k @ 4,2 Ghz runs at around 60 to max 65°c on the Freezer i30 You should clean your Heatsink, fan & put some new thermal compound on that CPU. Make sure the Heatsink sits properly
@Josh Try going liquid cooling I myself use to run horrific temperatures on my old Worfdale but now on my Haswell-E I barely get above 40 Degrees C on balanced settings on the Corsair Water Cooling setup I run
Its from my old prebuilt system (HP Envy 1455 from 2012) It's running a HP stock cooler but in comparison to a stock intel cooler its quite large. ( I know I have to get a water cooler at some point.) In the prebuilt system, I don't remember it running this hot and now I have more fans in this case then the old one lol Its a corsair vengeance c70 case, 2 120mm intake fans and one 120mm exhaust fan. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139013
at the risk of sounding like a dick, remount the cooler with new paste. i cant think of any other reason it would run that hot. does the heat sink get really hot to the touch?
No worries lol, all input is welcome. ill run beam for 5-6 mins and report back. (right now at idle its running at 49C)
i never go far above that under load. are you overclocked? stock voltage? even my gpu never goes above 62c.
Thats under no load jeez thats hot!! My GPU never exceeds 50 Degrees C myself I have the fans set on it so it ramps up with the power required to keep them spinning at just enough rpms to keep it cold the thing doesnt get going till 40% load
Stock clocks (with turbo boost of course) GPU runs at 49-57C Well maybe it was a fluke? i'm back down to 73-75 under a 60-62% load. (better than the 92-98 I was seeing at at 40-45% load) still hot or am I in the "normal" range? Yes Gracie, no load ambient temp is 79F (26C).
Okay that sounds good, you are using an older processor model Ivy Bridge so things have improved from the 3rd Gen to the 5th Gen I use
And as usual, the Gracie solution is simple: throw money at it. Why throw money into liquid cooling when a hyper 212 evo can be obtained for as little as £25 and will keep his chip plenty cool. a 50c idle is high. 90c under load is well into the damage risking territory. Anything exceeding about 80 is major concern.
I am more use to Corsair stuff but yeah a cheap £25 Air cooling setup is good I would suggest Corsair, but its really up to you, how much you willing to spend?
