Since I have been making the issue out of the "slow" death of Detroit, why not make a thread discussing about it then? If you don't know about this topic, just google "Detroit Decline" or "Detroit Economy" to get the meat of this topic.
It seems like it's on the up since the worst of it around like 2008-2013. Still has light-years to go but, I think the worst has past.
The very start of this decline was the 50s, which was a few years AFTER WWII, so I find that suspicious.
Well Detroit is apart of the Rust Belt, (A area I live in) and there is 3 reasons that made Detroit shit, 1.) The Oil Crisis 2.) Foreign Cars 3.) Politics (Mostly Unions Being A Little Bit Greedy)
Detroit got killed by two things: The Oil Crisis of 1973 Japanese cars They where going the wrong way all the time during the oil crisis.
Well, they had riots starting in '67 accordingly. The fact that nearly half of the population is in poverty is outstanding.
Plus, some of Detroit is abandoned, which begs the question... is Detroit even gonna come back when it dies out?
well its coming back around http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/michigan/2018/01/01/preview-michigan-detroit/109070144/
After all, it's the first day of 2018, so we need to wait before we can confirm any improvement in Detroit.
I just heard about 6 dead yesterday on the first day of 2018/last day of 2017. We're not the only one suffering a bad start-up. Link to story: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/ne...shot-overnight-detroit-2018-begins/994078001/
It's unfortunate to see how much Detroit has withered. It has me wondering if it's going to be one of those cities that may one day disappear off the map.
I'm not surprised. They went down this route since the 50s, it's never gonna end. Deadly crimes, low economy compared to other Michigan cities or major cities, and plenty of poverty. The only companies that are in trouble are Ford Motor Company and GM, probably more too. If they don't have any other headquarters besides Detroit, they'll slow down or even go out.
