    Hello all,

I just bought the alpha and i am currently testing the experimental version with my logitech g27.
Honestly I am quite disappointed with the results. I've been racing/drifting on driving sims for about 5 years now and I have to say BeamNg needs a lot of improvement, especially the FFB.
I know most use handheld controllers or keyboard, but the ffb and handling is a must for wheels.

I have read a few posts comparing BeamNG with live for speed, but it is still incomparable.

Ive been on driving sims like LFS for 5 years, and recently I have been drifting on Rfactor2 and Assetto Corsa. Which all are driving Simulators.
I also recently sold my R33 Skyline which i drifted. Compared to the sims I play It's basically the same as real life. (physicswise)

I do understand BeamNg is in alpha stage, but what I really want to know is in what direction you guys are taking this game?
I would love for you to be going in the Simulator direction and not Arcade like Forza, Grand Turismo. Sometimes I feel like i'm trying to drift grand theft auto cars in here haha

Don't get me wrong. BeamNg has a lot of potential and can really hit it big if they combine more realistic damage done to the cars (I know this is in progress) with Simulation physics.

Handling is improving, but just know that the stock vehicles in the game are street cars from the 90s, including cheap hatchbacks, family sedans and pickups. These are not exactly drift cars.

If you are using mods for your drift cars, well, that doesn't really represent BeamNG

Also FFB is coming, it's available in the experimental build but it's not complete.

    EDIT:

This game (I'm pretty sure) is trying to be 100% simulator.

Yes, the tire model has a lot of room but also a lot of potential for improvement. As you already mentioned, it's in the alpha stage. It will probably never be as precise for a specific task like racing a GT3 car around Spa, but when all is said and done it should be immersive and fun for a huge range of driving experience.

Games like Asetto Corsa aim to simulate only a narrow range of the vehicle experience, and use an empirical tire model optimized for specific types of tires. I think it's more appropriate to call them racing simulators than driving simulators. BeamNG aims to simulate a wide range of tires doing more than just driving around a smooth track, and so it uses a physical model that can be more versatile, usable for cars, trucks, airplane landing gear, driving on pavement, dirt, mud, and hitting rocks, logs, sidewalk curbs etc. You might more accurately call BeamNG a vehicle simulator, as it aims to do more in certain areas of simulation than games like AC.

As far as drifting is concerned, all the sims that I've tried that use empirical models (AC, RFactor) are pretty poor for drifting, because accurate information about heavily sliding/spinning tires just doesn't really exist; the tire is destroyed too quickly to get good data. On top of that, the AC and Rfactor devs/community don't seem that interested in drifting anyways, so its unlikely to get much better. LFS uses a semi physical model that in my opinion offers the most realistic drifting physics to date. BeamNG has a way to go with its physical tire model but hopefully can attain some of that great feel and dynamic behavior that LFS is so good at.

Personally I do not like mods that affect the actual game physics. So i just use add on content like tracks and cars.
I try to find the cars that handle the most realistic and use those.
I found a couple drift cars. There is an rx7 that has a 5 speed manual gearbox option. When the ffb is done thats on the top of my list to try out. Hopefully by then there will be a greater interest in the drifting aspect of beamng and will offer more add ons.

I am glad to hear that and im hoping you are right. It would be a lot of fun if the physics end up similar to Assetto Corsa or even lfs. And if some people build drift cars with good suspension and handling plus power it would be awesome.
Maybe Beamng should release a high powered car with increased steering lock with ffb and a 5-6 speed manual gearbox so we can test out and shut some people up including myself :D
Id be number 1 in line

For the most part, accurate cars can only be found on the beamng forums. Any sites (especially sites ending with ".ru") other than the forums are notorious for releasing pirated, incomplete, inaccurate content. You could personally modify some of the default vehicles in the game to be decent drifting cars with some simple suspension, engine, transmission, steering and diff tweaks in the jbeam. (there are tutorials on this)

I understand and agree with what your saying.
Lfs does rule the realfeel of the tires. Im happy they are slowly releasing small patches for the game.
Rfactor i dont consider anything realistic. Rfactor2 is a different story.
I do understand these are racing sims, but some of the cars we use in ac feel really good.
I still drift on lfs most the time. Im part of the Fortitude (42D) team and they created a pretty well mod. But most of the times im on the regular servers.

This would become one of my most used sims if they physics end up like lfs.
I know its a vehicle sim and find it very interesting. Maybe im just hoping to be able to drift with realistic damage to the body. It would be really fun and intense.

This one wasnt from an ru site. Might be though. It was hosted on mediafirw or something like that. I might give the tweaking a go. Maybe i will try to make my own model ha might be a good project.

I know this has nothing to do with this actual topic, but I however feel the same. I bought this game in hopes of being able to Offroad or Rock climb. I'm really into Rally/Baja Racing and this game seemed like it would be very realistic and fun to do these things with. I understand its alpha and there's not much content to allow this to happen as of yet but hopefully in the long run there will be that option for us Offroad racing/Rock Climbing fanatics! I do however enjoy the game at its current state, however I feel bored at times doing the same stuff over and over. If they're other good simulation games where offroad racing is possible/realistic please do tell.

Did you ever try richard burns rally simulator? Its pretty much the only rally sim out that is not arcade-ish. Its actually pretty hard. Maybe it might be fun for you if your into rally. As for offroad/hillclimb im not too familiar with those so i dont know of any sims yet. Ive tried an offroad sim but its not what i expected.

There are quite a few older games that were a lot of fun off road. 1nsane, 4x4 Evo 1/2, Screamer 4x4. The only good recent games I've seen are SpinTires and Off Road Drive (havent played Off-Road Drive tho). I've been wanting to try RBR too but I'm a bit confused about how to acquire it.
