Hello, and fáilte. What you see is what you get: a LiDAR-based recreation of a small part of the city of Dublin, Ireland. This project is a serious time sink, so don't expect perfect polish. It does have AI paths and night lighting, though. The area portrayed is a good chunk of the real-world district of Temple Bar. Spoiler: Credits Thanks to @Ewanc for his lidar import tutorial, NYU for the perhaps the highest-resolution full-city lidar data available, and Allegorithmic for their wonderful texture authoring programs. Public Art: Crann an Óir by Éamonn O'Doherty Happy St. Patrick's Day, people.
No, I've barely ever been outside the US. Just some of the most high-fidelity lidar data available and Google Earth to make it look right. Ish. Anyway, I figured it was high time to see a well-done map set in the [former] UK, so this was as good a place as any to begin. I've got one here Almost gone, though. But yeah, this is a Miramar map through and through. It's RHD, small enough to fit into tight spaces, and nimble enough to throw around the tight corners. Yup, same ambient noises as WCU. I had to reuse a few extant BNG assets, like the trees, curb material, and SFX.
Nice! oh and also, I tried to look at the link in your bio, but it doesnt work anymoer, do you have an updated version?
nice to see will inspect and i will help you with this map, giving small minor detail ideas, and information about the city.
Ah, crap. I should've read those emails I was getting from my web host. Nah, I don't think I'll bother getting any new portfolio stuff up anytime soon. Most of the more recent projects I've been working on are on this site anyway.
@RetroKing, can you read the description instead of posing a crappy rating? There's a reason the description says it is unfinished.
Although I believe his review was too harsh, I also believe that the reviews are there to report problems and shortcomings, and that the reviews section should not become an echo chamber for praise (as has happened in a few cases in the past). Thank you for your support, but there's no need to call RetroKing out. You have a point in regards to the version numbering. Truth is, when I released this project (hell, when I started this project), I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it. When I put "Beta" and "0.5" down, I guess that was me thinking that I wasn't going to add too much more. But it seems popular; there's a market for it. So I'll continue it, and when I get a patch out within the next week or so, I'll revert the version numbering and list as WIP (if I can).
