I'm not sure if by upgrading to DX11 it will allow DX12, or if they need to write for that too. but with windows 10 being the last os from microsoft I can see DX12 being a long standing thing and a good move. just a idea. may also increase performance of the game too!
They'll probably do it at a later point when enough people have upgraded to Windows 10. Right now there's probably still thousands of people playing the game on Windows 8/7 , and switching to DX12 would make the game literally unplayable for them. Another reason why the might not want to do it could be because the full DX12 feature set (for nvidia atleast) is only supported on the newest range of graphics card, which lots of people, including me, don't hvae because a decent one (ie a 970) costs a lot, if you consider the fact that I'd have to buy a new PSU and maybe even a new case.
I really can't wait until gaming breaks the hold windows has on it and it's no longer the main platform... If that ever happens.. which it may. there is less and less insentive to upgrade with every windows release as more and more negative info comes out about each next one before and after release, and I like windows 7 but it has it's issues. [Slow start up]
I just generally dislike Windows/DirectX. Linux and OpenGL are better imo. @Slayersen: There's less incentive to upgrade to the next version of Windows because there won't be another version. Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, at least until Midori (Microsoft's next generation kernel) replaces Windows NT as the core of Microsoft's operating systems.
It would be ok for me cause I have a 960 but I know some people in the forum with a Dual core and a Radeon 5580 :/ poor guys
for me DX12 would't change enything cause i anyways can't play this game anymore beacouse of my pc which doesnt support DX11 At least win 10 works fine
Honestly, DX12 would alienate so many people, including myself, that it would not be a good business decision. We really shouldn't need DX12 just to run this game well. DiRT3 uses DX11 and it's very well optimized, full ultra 8xmsaa at 4k and I still get more than 60fps. The real problem is torque3d, it's very inefficient and lacks many features needed to make the game look better and run better. Any graphics card lesser than 900 series / R9 series or any OS lesser than Windows 10 couldn't run it so this limits BeamNG to a very small portion of the populous who have both of the above. So, I highly doubt we'll ever get DX12, and IMO it's better that way.
to be correct nvidia stated that any card in there inventory that supports direct x 11 will be updated to directx 12 my boyfreind has a gtx 750ti and he has it on windows 10 and i have a gtx860m and i have directx 12 amd is the issue as they arent supporting most of there cards with the latest version
They said that any DX11 card will be able to support certain aspects of DX12, like some of the performance improvements. However, the rest of the features will be unavailable.
Dirt 3 uses DX11? hmm so now i realy don't know why beam ng is crashing all the time when im trying ot load any map/scenario. Beacouse dirt 3 works for me just fine on 60-140 fps on max setings only thing with dirt 3 is that my g27 wheel is sort of lagging
