    I want to begin by saying that I do own BeamNG.drive on Steam, and I have downloaded the old version from Internet Archive.

    But there is also another way to get old versions of Steam games through this method:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/611h5e/guide_how_to_download_older_versions_of_a_game_on/

    Therefore, no, I am not pirating the game.

    -------------------------------------------------------
    Also, I did not ask the mod authors for permission in using their vehicles in the making of this thread.

    If this is illegal and I needed permission, don't hesitate telling me and I will delete this message.
    -------------------------------------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    So I installed BeamNG version 0.22.1 this morning for performance and nostalgia reasons(my laptop can't keep up with the latest version), and I was wondering if mods made for newer versions of the game would run on this one, and by that, if it's possible to create a mod using an older version of the game, while also making it compatible with the latest version.

    --------------------------------------------

    I tested four mods: AW Bete, Taz Mir/Baikal, Hirochi CCF Remaster and Autobello Minilena.

    --------------------------------------------

    Here are the issues I did ran into:

    -as we all know, BeamNG did switch from the old pre-PBR system in version 0.23.
    All of these mods did have problems with the materials, as you can see in the pictures I linked.

    This is fixable, only needing to modify the materials files to be compatible with 0.22: removing the roughness, metalness and AO maps, and adding a specular map, while keeping the color.

    -door latches/vehicle triggers do not work properly, despite them being added just in 0.22: I guess this is caused by the system being modified into newer game versions. A possible fix for this would be copying the trigger system that the D Series is using in 0.22(you know, on the tailgate), but I am not sure if it would work in the last game version.

    -LUA Issues: I am not 100% sure about this at all, but the Hirochi CCF did have some issues regarding the brakes and the engines. By that, I mean that when the vehicle was spawned, it kept rolling back and forth and the gas and brake pedals did nothing. Possible fix would be adapting the current LUA code to the LUA API that 0.22 is using. But I am not sure about this,and I repeat myself, because I have not checked the files of this mod.

    --------------------------------------------

    Other than those, the Taz Mir/Baikal did drive normally, crash normally, no problem, the AW Bete also, and the Minilena... same thing.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Overall, a mod made in version 0.22 would be compatible with 0.32, but:
    -the materials need to be updated to PBR;
    -the trigger system must be adapted to it's newest version;
    -the LUA files must be adapted to the latest API changes present in the game.

    And I am not sure about the last two, it's just my guess.
    ----------------------------------------------
    What else wouldn't be compatible?

    The new hidraulic beam types, added 1-2 game versions ago, in the offroading update.
    And possibly alot more, who knows.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I got it through Internet Archive. I updated the first post too.
    And I'm not lying, I do own the game on steam currently.

    Here. It's also downloading an update atm. And Monochrome_Silence is also my Discord username, so yes, it's me.
    You can ask some people that have been on the forums for years, they will confirm you that it's me.

    I am an expert on this subject of beamNG and no, it’s called steamDB, not piracy
