Not sure what happened, I've been working on these for awhile, and out of nowhere it just stopped working. In the level, the mesh show the textures but they are now transparent!? And in game it's as if they're displaying "subtract" overlay kinda method. In Maya they just show up as black textures now :(

Oooookay, well restarted the game and the textures are no longer transparent. HOWEVER Maya is still showing them all as black :'( If I change to older ones they're fine. Errg, this is frustrating.

Also, why does the editor suddenly STOP showing my asset after making however many changes, sometimes it works with change after change after change, and other times it just goes invisible, so I have to reload the level and it's fine again.

The issue was that Maya is no longer reading BC7 dds files, if I export as BC1 it works. I thought I tried that, don't know why I missed it.

I downloaded GIMP and exported from there and it worked, so again tried in photoshop and sure enough BC1 works.

The issue is with Maya, and nothing to do with the game of course, but incase anyone finds this and has a similar issue: Black .dds textures in Maya, try exporting them as BC1 format as such:

Yeah, BC7 is a format not many tools are able to read yet.
Neither Blender can read those correctly.
They are mostly a one-way format.

What drives me bonkers is that it WAS reading them then suddenly stopped. They're supported apparently according to docs.

Could be a software bug (or some hidden setting misconfigured), or maybe something happened on export.
I'd suggest importing the .DDS back and see if it's showing correctly (it probably would, if it's showing right in game)

Nah all the old ones stopped working too. Musta done something stupid. Ah well, just using BC1 dds for everything for now. I know BC7 is better but for work flow reasons I'm just keeping it this way. Maybe once everythings done I'll re-export them all as BC7s from their psd.

In other texture news, I just discovered: Quixel Mixer. O. M. G.
