I have discovered this game a short time ago and I enjoy it much, especially when driving with AI traffic. As I was driving in the mud with a 4x4 Jeep-style vehicle, I was surprised to see "standard" vehicles there. Do you really think a Piccolina would drive on a mud off-road track? This is why I suggest the vehicles are filtered according to the type of road. Standard roads would accepts any kind of vehicle, while gravel or mud would be for a limited number of vehicles that have the ability to drive on it.
that's a great idea, could possibly be done using the AI road's drivability factor and the vehicle's offroad score
Yeah that's a really good idea for the game update, it would only accept vehicles with an offroad score bigger than average or something
In the traffic settings, I found the traffic vehicle selection with these 4 following options: smart, smart (any configs), random, random (any config). I couldn't figure out the meaning of each option, do you think they might help for this vehicle filtering?
I don't think so, smart means it will select mostly american cars in american maps, italian cars in italy, etc.
All right, thanks for the info. BTW, do you know the difference between "smart" and "smart (any config)"?
Great post! Currently, there are some specs that are used (buses, semis, and other large vehicles will never spawn on dirt roads, for example), but there is stuff that needs to be balanced or weighted. Off-road scores by themselves might not be good enough to allow or deny driving on low drivability roads (surprisingly, the base Piccolina has a high value of 46!). Also, drivability values need to be tweaked for some maps. In some cases, there are asphalt roads with value 0.6 and dirt roads with value 0.7 . I'll forward this info.
honk honk bird it would also be nice to sort spawned vehicles by year. So you can only spawn modern vehicles if you want, or ones from the 70s, etc.
