I have a late model racecar that I would like to make into a mod. I am importing all of the models from rFactor and manipulating them from there.

    I have:
    Frame
    Body
    Suspension
    Cockpit
    Engine
    etc.
    All as separate models.

My question is where to start on the Jbeam. Do I have to make my own from scratch or do I make a Jbeam for each part of the car (frame, body, etc)? Or is it rather a combination of all of them?

This is all rather overwhelming considering this is the first 3d modeling thing I have ever done as well.

The car I want to create has a 4 link suspension in the rear. Is it possible to create one of those? Ex. Is a birdcage possible to make plus the heims that go between the frame and the axle.

I have a couple other general modelling questions but these are my initial questions.

I want to do this right, I will not settle for adopting another jbeam or cutting corners, however the less I have to do from scratch the better seeing as I have never done any 3d before.

All I can say is to start modding with something simple. Like, follow the tutorial for it in the wiki to the "t". Then try bigger stuff. And I take it you don't fully understand jbeam, so have a look inside the official vehicles for some help.
