I am looking at this phone:
    https://www.verizonwireless.com/smartphones/moto-z-play-droid/

I chose it because it is an Android, and its video-taking quality rivals that of an iPhone 7.

It says that it costs $5 a month, but then "
$408.00 device payment purchase required. Less $168.00 bill credit applied to account over 24 months. Begins w/in 1-2 cycles and ends when balance is paid; 0% APR."

Does this mean that I have to pay $408 up front or that I will pay for that over 24 months? Or is it just $5/month to lease the phone? Because $408 as one payment is way too expensive for me, but $5 doesn't sound so far out of reach.

You need a phone to make a Verizon account, let alone contact them

Find the "Contact Us" button and figure it out from there. It's not that hard.
