Since the Steam Early Access update, this game has gained a lot more potential. This actually is starting to feel like a driving game, now that I have managed to play it with a steering wheel, and checked out all the new scenarios that were added.

Because of that, there's now all more the reason to record some very cool stuff that you do in game (even besides crashing, yes yes); Drifting, precise high speed driving, obstacle courses, etc. A lot of stuff that require you to still being able to control your vehicle from a driving position, whilst recording (unlike recording crashes, where your go to the wall at high speed, slow down time, place the camera and enjoy the wonderful smushiness).

I think this game will gain a lot by having the option to place a free camera (like the Shift+C free camera), jump back to a driving position, then start recording with the former mentioned placed camera, and do what you need to do. Capturing the moment from a custom camera position, while being able to control your vehicle fully (I know you can control your vehicle with the Shift+C camera, but not being able to control your vehicle from an actual driving position hurts the control-ability and precision a lot. Thus impacting the level of things you can record). Perhaps have a small icon in the 3D world indicating where the camera is and where it's pointing.

I slightly fear this "small" (I realize it's not such a small thing to actually implement) feature will not appeal to the entire fanbase of the game, or maybe the difficulty of implementation will outweigh the benefit. But on the other hand I think such a feature will appeal to a lot of the players, and make the game more enjoyable in it's sandoboxy feel.
A lot of players make incredible films with the game, and being able to film actually accurate stuff, instead of struggling with a 3rd person view of your vehicle will allow incredible clips to be filmed, such clips that convey the vibe I started getting fro the game. Which is a great one.

I thank you for taking your time to read this. And I'll be very glad if you also comment stating what you thing about this. I think it will be a great improvement, following the brilliant addition of the photo mode.

    tl;dr
It'd be cool to have a free camera that you can put somewhere and record from it, while staying in a driving position.

Just press F8 to make the camera detach from the car.
To get it back on press Shift+C.

I don't think you understood his suggestion properly.

I think he's saying that he wants a camera outside the car to record while he has a camera inside the car to drive.

Exactly, thank you. I didn't really now how to make it clearer in my post, not a native English speaker... Well, tried my best.

    Oh.
Well, it didn't sound like that in the tl;dr though.

I would love to record my driving and play it back in the same style of Assetto Corsa. I hope the developers are working on something similar. :)

you cane move the cameras around the car or make some, they are all written in the jbeam. If you see some beams stretching for some car for no reason to the side where the camera (hint) is and you think it should be fixed, the camera is placed on these. They are set to not collide with anything really.
You can both move them or make new, in the respective jbeam for the vehicle (main jbeam for unibody cars, respective cab jbeam for BOF cars), under the "cameras"

Would be better to have a replay feature like in Assetto Corsa, desirable.

uh, could be? i mean it should be possible to make a camera in-game, and take the location numbers where your free camera is at that point. Should not be a problem to stretch some beams there.

I thought so too at the start, but I highly doubt such a thing is possible. The amount of physics data being generated every milisecond in BeamNG.Drive is immense, assetto corsa has just one rigid body, the car, and perhaps the 4 wheels. Here you have the position and momentum of thousands of beams. I really don't think such a thing is practical, if at all possible.

Well what I think could work is when the player presses ALT+C to "fix" a camera, the game would find the closest 6 nodes that'd be best for holding the camera and put it there. It'd be a cool feature for sure.
