Gambler Hills This mod will be my entry for the Gambler 500 BeamNG modding contest. Please do note that when I posted the map here and on the forums, there weren't any (similar) Gambler 500-themed maps. WELCOME in Gambler Hills! An abandoned place, which is great for off-roading and crawling. It is now covered with trash. Litter and debris everywhere! Isn’t that a paradise for some roaming with your Gambler 500 vehicle? IT IS! HIGHLIGHTS -DETAILED: I took my time to create a super-detailed map for those who love exploring. Placed tons of rocks, bushes and other vegetation by hand to achieve that abandoned feeling. I’ve paid attention to both vegetation, terrain and props. Locate debris, jump, crawl…You name it! Do whatever you want. This is one of my most detailed maps. Everything is in PBR. -CONTENT-FILLED: By downloading the map, you get not only a map but missions (6) and custom configs for some vehicles! Also, the map has dynamic night lights. -TINY: The map is small on purpose, but this is not its disadvantage! Enjoy driving around and doing missions! Keep an eye on the small details, too! Also, you can enjoy the smooth performance! -THEME: The map is built specifically for the ’Gambler 500 mod contest’. The map itself and all the missions are share the vibes of the Gambler 500! All the missions and the map itself is designed specifically for the contest. The map is designed that way—rather to be small and detailed than large. You may think that this map should be larger. But keep in mind that I had a limited time to make a content-filled map for the contest. -The map is made for the ’Gambler 500 mod contest’, which means the map’s theme and its missions are very specific. That means there I cannot and will not add missions that are not related to the Gambler 500 theme. -If you download this map mod after the contest, keep in mind that I may not release huge content updates for this map as this is an entry for a contest (however, this might change in future). The map may receive updates until 30 June 2023 (before the official deadline).
i read the 'before reviewing' part, and i do not take back that this map is tiny. it is 1.2 gigabytes and is tiny.
What do you mean exactly? Custom configs should be available during missions --- Post updated --- I'm sorry to hear that! Stuff like PBR textures and such makes it large in file size. I'm not happy about that either.
PBR does not immediately equal 1.2GB large files. The reason the mod's zip is so big is because a huge part of the assets and materials are unused. In case of the materials, some can also be replaced with another material removing the need for 3-5 texture files. 219 of 287 meshes that come with the map are not used.
Hey! Thank you for your comment and ideas! The reason I said please use the thread to discuss such things instead of the review section is the fact that I can and will fix the issues. You are right, I have to optimize the file size, but I also have to avoid errors (removing stuff can lead to such things).
I think the hypermilling challenge is broken. when i try to load it, it just gets stuck on the loading screen and requires restarting the game
I appreciate just about everything about the map, it's very well detailed and seems to run decently on my system. But would you be able to add actual time trials to the map instead of just through the new missions thing? I ask because I run a a few autobeam competitions which are very time trial oriented. I made a few of them myself earlier for other aps but due to my work schedule have almost no time to do it these days. I suggest looking at this guide if you're unsure how to do it
Hi! Like a config pack? It could work, but those configs are edited vanilla ones made for the missions. However, I might make one if there is a demand for it. --- Post updated --- Hi! It is working at me (see the picture below)
I just checked it with my Tool for map creators and used the shrink feature. The map seems to be quite good optimized in terms of unused files. 466 files can be deleted but the gain for the zipped file is only about 250 MB.
