So there is PRND21 on some cars, but if you select 2, then you get gears 1 AND 2, most cars i have seen have the 2 so that its less power to the wheels to help in the wet/ice. So 2nd Gear should start off in 2nd and stay there.
In my experience, it depends on the transmission. Where automatic transmissions are truly mechanical, putting it in 2 locks it in 2 from a standstill all the way to redline. In my experience with electronically controlled automatics, putting the transmission in 2 only acts as a gear limit. The car will still start in 1 but won't shift higher than 2. This is by far the more common one out there so I can see why that's the feature in the game.
no, it lets the gearbox choose between gear 1 and 2. On the newer cars with the M2 setting that stays in gear 2, but the older cars in position 2 have both gears enabled 1 and 2 --- Post updated --- oh, i mustve just known some weird cars
not weird at all - all automatic cars i have known act like this too (have only driven newer ones tho). last automatic i drove was a mercedes g class and you guessed it - having it in 2 will only stop the car from shifting higher than 2. maybe older cars act like that but i wouldnt know since automatics arent very popular here.
