I know, but I was testing if it auto linked to the user page. Someone posted with a link that they manually typed. Weird
Avast has been getting really creepy recently. Now when I am at checkouts on websites it brings up a pop-up saying that I should upgrade to protect my details. That's with the Avast web browser plug ins disabled. I understand that it is scanning my internet traffic but trying to use that to market your products to me is a bit sketchy, makes me wonder what else they do with that data.
I uninstalled Avast a while ago. Different reasons though, it's a huge HDD hog when it decides to scan and it would cause slow texture loading in games (especially FO4). I actually don't have any real-time AV (disabled Windows Defender for same reason). Just use common sense and malwarebytes scans about once a month.
Problem is that regardless of how much common sense I use even combined with wot and some other plugins there is always some random occasion once every two to three months where some normally trustworthy website misbehaves or redirects you. For example I had to stop browsing Engadget on my phone a while a go because it would give constant redirects to scam websites and downloaded an apk file to my phone. Also, just fyi malwarebytes state on their website that it should not be used in place of antivirus but along side it: https://support.malwarebytes.org/customer/portal/articles/1834872?b_id=6438
I just realised something thanks to that avast conversation. I dont have an antivirus on my PC, since I did a clean reinstall of Windows. I could play the "Nah, I wont need it" card, which would probably go well, since I only go here and on youtube. I should probably go the "better safe than sorry" route though and get at least some kind of free antivirus.
I'd use Windows Defender w/o real-time, but the damn thing turns itself on again. Only way to disable it permanently is to use a group policy which disables it completely, manual scans too. Thanks, Microsoft. Might be able to use a PS script to check and disable real time protection every X time. So when it re-enables itself it gets disabled automatically. Windows Defender is good enough. Edit: Found the group policy to disable RT. Now have Windows Defender and Malwarebytes in manual scan only.
OK, gonna just use that then. Had a bit of fun in notepad++, turned out pretty alright I'd say: --edit-- Except for the misspelling of February... Oops.
I use AVG and Malwarebytes. AVG has newer updates that really are intrusive, but I just update the database, not the client.
I use Avast! as a main anti-virus and Malwarebytes as a backup. I don't run both of them at the same time because neither one would work if that's the case.
